Housing is a pain, specifically on a budget. You might need to expand the search and sacrifice a few stops on the septa... The train stops right next to VLS, so it's do-able. Also, keep your eye out for small rental houses some are priced equivalent to 1 bedroom apts (though utilities will likely be higher).
