That's actually a pretty popular scholarship negotiation technique. You could say something along the lines of, "I would really love to go to GSU and am grateful for the offer to attend, but I got a scholarship offer from Similarly/Higher Ranked School, and it's important to me to minimize my debt. I would appreciate if GSU looked at my file for merit scholarship consideration." Obviously less casually. I have been told to talk about offers in terms of percentages instead of dollar amounts, like Similarly Ranked School is offering 25% of tuition coverage or something.applicant4321 wrote:I don't know anyone personally who has been waitlisted but you should checkout LSN if you haven't already.
Does anyone have an opinion on letting admissions know you got a scholarship somewhere else? Is this super tacky? I don't know if its something everyone does or if it would be weird.

Re: GA State c/o 2018
does anyone know if the facebook page for new students has been set up yet? They mentioned that they were working on it in an email, but I think they will only tell people about it once they send in their seat deposit... not sure

ok, they wrote about it in the "Georgia State Law Updates" email saying they were working on one, so I guess they haven't invited anyone to it yet.

Asking them to lower expectations seems counter productive to asking for more money.metalhaart wrote:Has anyone tried to negotiate their scholarships? I got 8k for the first two years and a GRA position, full tuition, and a stipend for the last year. I'm really excited, but the stipulation is I have to keep a 3.0 to maintain the scholarship. I would really like to take that down to a 2.7 or something lower. Any ideas of how to do this? Has anyone else tried?

That 3.0 stip is way to high, though, considering GA State's median is between 2.9-3.1. It would basically be a coin flips chance to lose it all. It seemed like the best move to negotiate that down first. In any case, I see negotiating a stip as recognizing the damning effect of the GPA curve, not so much asking them to lower their expectations of me. I can't imagine any school would impose a 3.0 stipulation because they expect everyone to keep that scholarship. I did negotiate my scholarship with GSU, and they were amenable to discussing more money and lower stips, so I would encourage all of you to negotiate, too.

Has anyone heard any updates regarding the ALS Fellows scholarship? Last I heard decisions would be made in April but I went through some old boards and some were made as early as March 30th.

Re: GA State c/o 2018
Anyone had any luck or know of anyone changing from part time to full time? At the the time I applied, I indicated interest in part time only. However, circumstances have changed. I did not know if this was possible or even worth asking. Woul appreciate any input
