Went ahead and solicited a fee waiver, so as soon as that comes back I'll be sending mine off!

Who'd you send your e-mail to? Just JD admissions?MidwestLifer wrote:Went ahead and solicited a fee waiver, so as soon as that comes back I'll be sending mine off!

Well I don't want to end up on the West Coast, and Berk is no good for scholarship negotiation because of their matching scholarships program. So there's no use applying there (as opposed to other T14s) if you wouldn't actually go there.ikethegremlin wrote:Yo Xylo why aren't you applying to Berkeley?xylocarp wrote:Hehe I'm actually not even applying to Berk. MidwestLifer, let us know if they give you the fee waiver (merit based?) please!

Nice! Yeah creeping around these boards helped me to ask for recommendations way in advance! I didn't need the extra stress. FWIW, they're probably going to say that they don't respond to solicitations and you should wait for the CRS wave. Maybe that changed last cycle, but I forget.xylocarp wrote:Well I don't want to end up on the West Coast, and Berk is no good for scholarship negotiation because of their matching scholarships program. And, as a sidenote, I didn't apply to Berkeley for the same reasons. Don't really regret it.

Lavitz, the highest Cornell authority TLS has to offer. Welcome my friend. It feels like it was forever ago we talked about applying and the pros of Cornell/Ithaca. Thanks for all the help you have, and surely will continue, to contribute. Crazy the application cycle has begun. Are you aware if the addition of the ED option showed a boost in odds of being admitted? For science, of course.Lavitz wrote:FWIW, they're probably going to say that they don't respond to solicitations and you should wait for the CRS wave. They said exactly that, Lavitz. Any idea when to expect the CRS wave?

Re: Cornell c/o 18 Applicants
I do think it helped a little based on nothing more than anecdotal data. I don't have time to analyze any data, since I'm actually supposed to be packing to move back to Ithaca right now, and I'm not sure why I'm still procrastiTLSing.Toby Ziegler wrote:Lavitz, the highest Cornell authority TLS has to offer. 2 years ago they snail-mailed really nice booklets to a bunch of people and included a letter saying whether the fee was already waived. Last cycle, I remember a bunch of people got e-mails instead of snail mail, and they didn't send them out for a while, so maybe a week? I just remember them being really slow about it after the app opened. I'd have to go back to last year's thread. You can just check for a hidden one too, of course.MidwestLifer wrote:They said exactly that, Lavitz. Any idea when to expect the CRS wave?
Edit: Just checked. Some people got it after a week, some after a month, some after 2 months.

You may be able to, but you won't go complete until they have them, so either way it doesn't matter.

Re: Cornell c/o 18 Applicants
App question: they ask you to list who has most influenced you to apply to Cornell. I know people that went there for undergrad, but not anyone who went to the LS, and no one who particularly influenced me. Do you think it's valid to say I don't know any alums, or should I talk about how much my friends/coworkers who went there for undergrad love Cornell or something?

Talk about the people who influenced you if they did. According to Lavitz you can just put N/A if nobody really did thoughmiddlebear wrote:App question: they ask you to list who has most influenced you to apply to Cornell.
