this is credited. I got the call from OU a week ago and they said they were mailing my admissions packet(im a 2 hours drive away). Exactly 7 days later I got an email saying "Your packet will go out in the mail today."BVest wrote:I think "mailed" means "letter printed and sitting in work-study student's inbox waiting to be folded, enveloped, and posted, but since s/he works 3-5 hours a week, don't hold your breath."

That's actually very close. My letter was "mailed" on 11/2, but I hadn't received it by the Atlanta LSAC Forum on 11/14. I spoke with the Baylor rep there and she told me that it sometimes sits on the dean's desk for a while awaiting a signature. I think he travels a lot.BVest wrote:I think "mailed" means "letter printed and sitting in work-study student's inbox waiting to be folded, enveloped, and posted, but since s/he works 3-5 hours a week, don't hold your breath."

Haha dont tell us you've mailed it until you actually have!!
My parents just shipped me something(5 pound package). It left Dallas yesterday afternoon. I got it in the mail by noon today, 4 1/2 hours away. It isn't like they paid extra for overnight. I guess either the service they used or something got it to me faster.

They use signature machines for all of these letters. The dean isn't signing each one individually. It probably just takes them a while to prep and mail all of the packets, if they're doing them in house. It's a very time consuming process with lots of checkpoints a long the way, making sure so-and-so's letter is in so-and-so's packet.
But I'm with you. They should maybe wait to change their status checker until they're closer to the actual mail date. I'm sure they're doing the best they can! My decision actually came within two days (I'm regional).

Are you saying my personalized message from the dean was actually written by a machine?c28 wrote:They use signature machines for all of these letters. The dean isn't signing each one individually. That's not what I'm saying. I said the signature is probably done by a machine that replicates the dean's signature. This is a common practice. Doesn't detract at all from the value of the letter. It's simply more efficient and saves the dean from a serious case of carpal tunnel.BVest wrote:That's what s/he's saying, but is likely wrong.gobears2012 wrote:Are you saying my personalized message from the dean was actually written by a machine?c28 wrote:They use signature machines for all of these letters. I know what a signature machine is, and I'm saying you're likely wrong. And their use is not as ubiquitous as you might think. Even when an office has one, there are certain types of mailings for which they won't use them, and I would expect that acceptance letters, where the dean will want to add a personal note to some of the letters, are one type of those.c28 wrote:That's not what I'm saying. When I ran fundraising for a fairly large organization, we would have thank you letters going out in batches of 75-150 at a time, yet I insisted on hand-signing every thank you letter so that, in cases where I knew the donor personally, I could add a personal note. And when I worked in Congress, though many offices had signature machines, ours did not. For pure mass-mail items, they would go out with a laser printed signature, but for personal letters, they were signed.

To put this to rest, it was not signed by a machine. It was a good-old-fashioned signature with a real life pen.

Haha it's not that big of a deal. Whether it's signed by the dean or a machine or a wild animal that doesn't change the fact that it mails incredibly slow and at the end of the day that's truly all I care about

Re: Baylor Law School c/o 2018 Applicants
Didn't mean to cause a big fight over the signature. I could've cared less whether it was signed by hand or imitated - I was just as excited to get my letter. I agree with you. The point I was trying to make was that sometimes mailings just take a while and there's no singular reason why. That's all.ilikebaseball wrote:Haha it's not that big of a deal. Current Law Student at Baylor. No, the horror stories are not true. While it may be challenging, the school implements characteristics that are essential to being an attorney. Speaking to my friends at SMU and UT, it is different because of the quarter system. If you get a chance to visit, then you will see that the students are not cut throat and are pretty close with one another.

As crazy as this might sound (especially to people who haven't lived there), I like the feel of Waco better than Austin or Dallas/Fort Worth. It's a smaller city, which of course means fewer options when it comes to food and shopping. However, the COL is excellent and traffic is never very bad. People here are generally quite nice.c28 wrote:To current students/alums:

Also, the Bears > Mustangs and Longhorns. This fact cannot be overstated.
I'll admit that I was a non-traditional law student. I couldn't care less about USN&WR rankings. I never worried much about job prospects. I was more interested in going to a place where I'd be happy (which meant considering faculty, students, campus, city, etc.). I knew that if I was happy, I'd be more successful as a student. I trusted that success would translate to employment opportunities. Things have worked out just fine for me.
I'm sure others can provide more specifics, but I figured I'd toss my two cents in.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
