on preferred, received an email saying, "As of today our deposits are quite strong, and we are not planning to make many offers prior to our May 1st deposit deadline. However, these things have a way of changing so it is always possible we will have room in the next few weeks."
anyone else on preferred received this? is the more encouraging email going out to those on the spwl?

Hmmm... I no sink so. What be the medians for Hoyaland?Dmini7 wrote:If you aren't a URM or offer something they really need, then i can't say it really helps. With that said, it definitely does not hurt, and you should write a compelling one if you wish to attend(with the mindset it will be at sticker). Are you close to median for LSAT or GPA? if that is the case even as below median you may be valuable if they predict their medians dropping.DaRascal wrote:I'm on the regular waitlist. When it comes to getting off any waitlist, how much does a LOCI even matter if you're below the medians? I feel like it really comes down to numbers and school needs.

With the national decline in LSAT taking and applications, it would seem reasonable to expect that to decline to 168/3.67, I think.

Checking in, also got the waitlist email-on the regular list.
Will write an LOCI today and send it off. I think that we'll know where we really stand after May 1st. But as a regular waitlist candidate, I'm not holding out much hope.

I'm on the regular WL as well but got the email with the preferred wording (i.e. hold tight until after May 1st). I'm above their 75th% GPA but slightly below their 25th% LSAT, and already sent a post-WL LOCI back in February. Worth another LOCI at this point considering I've already gotten pretty decent merit scholarship money from GW? FWIW I plan to go into Int'l Law, so I think $$ at GW for Int'l makes it very much a peer to GULC. Thoughts?

Re: Georgetown Waitlist 2013
Out of curiosity... Isn't it better to hear back after the may 1st deadline? I mean if I already deposited at another school, hearing back before may 1st means I have to decide within a week if I can see myself at Georgetown. I would at least like the option to discuss finances before making such a decision. Or are the offers after may 1st like 1-2 day deadline windows?

I think Dean Treanor mentioned that he expects the LSAT median to drop by a point or two!

Did anyone else on the waitlist get an email about financial aid just now? I am not even admitted yet and their asking how much money I need to "make Georgetown a possibility"... It would be naive to think that the answer I give will not affect the admissions decision, right?

Im on the special preferred wait list. Don't really know what to tell them to be honest. I don't want to low ball and miss out on potential aid but I don't want to scare them away by saying I want a lot of money. Either way, I guess it's a good sign.

Re: Georgetown Waitlist 2013
just withdrew with some $$ (and hopefully freed up a spot and $$ for one of you!). best of luck -- this multi-tiered waitlist stuff sounds insane.
i don't know if this will help the posters above who were concerned about deadline timeframes, but: i received an increased scholarship offer from GULC last week and was given one business day to either pay the seat deposit or withdraw. i did ask for a three-day extension, though, and they granted it.

Hmm.. so to see some real movement, we will have to wait until like 5/10ish?becomestairs wrote:i don't know if this will help the posters above who were concerned about deadline timeframes, but: i received an increased scholarship offer from GULC last week and was given one business day to either pay the seat deposit or withdraw. i did ask for a three-day extension, though, and they granted it.

Anyone on the preferred waitlist see some movement after sending in more information about their interest? Or atleast a confirmation of your response?

Every time I sent my LOCI, the admissions committee at Georgetown usually got back to me in a day or two.Dmini7 wrote:Anyone on the preferred waitlist see some movement after sending in more information about their interest? Or atleast a confirmation of your response?

Preferred waitlist, sent LOCI immediately after notification, got confirmation two days later, and radio silence until the mass update earlier this week.Dmini7 wrote:Anyone on the preferred waitlist see some movement after sending in more information about their interest? Sorry, I meant after the mass update that was trying to gauge peoples interest from the Sp. Preferred waitlist. I got a response when I sent in my LOCI, but haven't after a "second" LOCI as a response from their inquiry on our interest level.

I don't know if you ever bought a car, but usually in negotiations both sides will throw out numbers that are far apart. In fact dealers refer to ppl that pay full sticker on a car as the "suckers." I would ask for 10k/year more than your next highest scholarship offer. If they ask you to send your other offers, you can justify the extra 10k a year because DC is so expensive to live in, Georgetown's tuition costs more than it does at school x, and you were admitted after the Admitted Student Day. The ASD thing is relevant because now you will have to spend more time researching the school, which takes away time that you could have been working.punkapelsinen wrote:zz888 wrote:are you wait listed or just havent received a decision yet? Bumping this for any news, since it's almost May 1. It sounds like there were just a flurry of mass emails to all WLed applicants- has anyone been admitted?

Re: Georgetown Waitlist 2013
I may be ill informed, but I think a strong LOCI is sufficient. I would assume that would include why you want to attend GTown. I don't think you need to worry about sending in an essay every time they contact you. Like I have been contacted 3 times. If I wrote 3 essays, I don't know who would have time to read all the crap.SteelPenguin wrote:I've already written a "Why Georgetown" and a LOCI after getting waitlisted last month, and I'm really struggling to write this next LOCI without being repetitive. Is anyone else having this problem?
EDIT: Got through it okay, but these are definitely getting harder to write.

I see what you're saying, and if I had already been admitted I would do something very much like what you're suggesting. What makes me hesitate is the fact that I have not been admitted yet. I don't have the kind of leverage that admitted students have when they negotiate scholarship offers. I guess my worry is that if I ask for a lot of money, they'll just ignore me and admit someone who asked for a lot less...jdmonkey wrote:I don't know if you ever bought a car, but usually in negotiations both sides will throw out numbers that are far apart. Good point. Then you really have to soul search and figure out what price Georgetown is worth for you: based on how you think you will like the school, the career opportunities, the strength of the alumni network, how much loans if any you would be willing to take out, and how it compares to your next best option. No easy answer
