I can get to that site. When I click status track or whatever it asks for a certificate so i select one of the options and then it asks again.

I'm not quite sure what this ^ means. Plus she's a engineer and likely IP secure and very employable I would imagine (same name on law school numbers).

In any event I think we are likely to see most non-T14 schools medians fall this year (and likely some t-14's as well). They reduced class sizes last year at a ton of schools and I doubt they can do that again and keep their bottom lines healthy. Too many schools and less applicants etc. etc.

I didn't mean to suggest anything regarding her future employability. My point is that applying to law schools when you are below both medians is a death sentence. Only a few schools--CU, Tulane, Cornell, Utah, and a few others I don't know-- accept non-URM candidates who are below both medians. CU's new dean has been much more rankings conscience than the old dean. For example, under the new dean we have begun employing our own graduates, like the majority of schools have done for 3 or 4 years. However, it appears that CU admissions is still run in the same manner it was under the former dean. CU runs much more of a "full-file review" than other schools, to the detriment of its USNEWS ranking. I think this is cool; however, I'm somewhat surprised that this practice is continuing under the new dean. That's all I meant.

Regarding medians falling-- I think you're absolutely right. Of course they will fall. According to some sources, we are looking at only 53k applicants to law school this year. However. CU has weathered the storm well. Medians have gone up the last two years while others have gone down, and applications are still very high. In fact, we set a school record in 2011, with 3,300+ applications. for a school with a class size of 150, this is pretty solid.

Bottom line: congrats Nola on your acceptance. I bet you've got a terrific resume and wrote the shit out your personal statement. Nice work.

I would also guess that most schools accept "some" non-urm's that are below both medians - its just that TLS and LSN are a self selecting group that scare most, but not all, people who are not "T-14 or bust" away. Just a hunch anyway. /shrug

Really? Which schools? Were you close to their medians? (as you mentioned, maybe they figure you will be the new median..)

I guess it does happen once in a blue moon, but looking at the data suggests that it doesn't happen much. In fact, the last two years I've looked, I haven't seen more than a handful of non-urms who have gotten accepted to a school where they are below both medians. Of course, I'm not talking about schools like Cooley. I guess I focused on schools 1-75 or so. In that group, there was like 7 people outside of the schools I mentioned. Further, many TLS'ers have worked in their respective school's admissions office and shared details. Schools set a median goal, then try to buy 20% above/at both median students, admit 40% splitter, and admit 40% reverse spitter. Obviously not all admission strategies are exactly alike but you get the idea.

Surely Utah and CU do something like that as well, but they also seem to have some large percentage set aside for students in a "full-file review." Again, I think that is great and I'm proud of it. It isn't like Utah or CU will ever be Harvard, or ever be more or less than a good regional school. I guess Utah competes (to an extent, complicated Morman stuff..) with BYU, but with CU, there isn't a better school for nearly a thousand miles in each direction (I think st. louis is like 900 miles away..). Like many law schools, CU's reputation is set in the area where it places students. Might as well admit who you want!

I was surprised, but of course glad, that I got in. I bank on my engineering degree, studying to take the patent bar (taking it in a month), W/E, and PS. I applied to a bunch of reach schools because for me - worse comes to worse - I stay at my job and retake the LSAT. Only reason I didn't retake this go round is the patent bar which I want to get out of the way before AIA fully kicks in in March 2013.

I have definitely been going back and forth whether law school is right for me at this time. It's definitely something I want to do, but I'm not in a huge rush to do so. Honestly, TLS is working it's magic on me and has me thinking that I should probably keep my job and retake unless by some miracle I get into UT.

I don't think it'll be worth much but if I pass the Patent Bar I fully plan on letting all the schools know that day, haha.

Disappointed for sure, but not end of world. From Boulder so hoping to have it as an option. Still trying to decide between Law school and applied statistics grad school and have other good offers but was hoping for this one. Hopefully you guys hear back soon then, I assume it has taken so long as they are trying to figure out where to draw the line between acceptances and waitlists with small cycle.
