yeah, i mean only half (and thats being generous) of all the yale WL people are probably using TLS or LSN...so theres a very decent chance that if somebody already got in, we would not know about itcogitoergosum wrote:It's gotta be soon, right? Looks like it. The waitlist email said "under 100" are on the waitlist, and 45 people voted in this thread's poll.luckycheartbeat wrote:Actually, it probably is about half..

And I wouldn't be surprised if there were a couple of lurkers who didn't vote.

Even for Yale its been too quiet. Its been a month since most of us got wait-listed
I looked through past threads and it looked like they were tweeting updates for the WL applicants during one cycle..they even mentioned when the class was getting filled up. I can't believe I'm obsessing over this when the chances are not great...or are the slim odds the reason why I'm obsessed.

Has anyone considered the possibility that the class simply is full? HS seem to show similar lack of movement at this point; the system might just be at full capacity.

this is a possibility but i don't that the lack of movement at HYS means that all 3 classes are full

What else could account for the system-wide delay?

Everything seems a bit late this year in general. Also, they may just be taking longer because they are taking longer, not because classes are full.

There could be multiple answers to this question...yes, your statement that the class is full is one of them but there are so many more...let me state some (even the weird ones)
- They are re-reviewing the WL group thoroughly, giving our apps the special attention they deserve
- Asha is taking a break from us and focusing on making sure those who were deposited get all the info they need b4 they arrive on campus
-the admissions office put our apps in the dungeons and have just retrieved them.
-the admissions office caught the flu and have been bed ridden for a while
-they have not heard back from every accepted student.
-they are still approving deferrals and would not get to the WL group until they feel like most deferral requests are in.
-Its May, the students are gone, so they took a long vacation.
-they don't care anymore and they are reviewing one app per day
if anyone thinks i missed something u can add but there are other possibilities apart from a full class

Compared to the last few years (as shown on LSN) the cycle at Harvard has been significantly delayed and Yale's has been delayed to a lesser extent.JannaV wrote:What else could account for the system-wide delay?
Harvard's was largely due to the changing Deans, but I think that you could also explain part of the delay at both schools due to applications being down 10 to 20% this year. I think it's a big enough difference so that admissions committees have to take a little longer constructing a class and determining yields.
But really, I don't know what is going on at any of the schools. I just think there are plenty of reasons for the delays and silence, and I highly doubt classes are full and no one will be taken off the waitlist.
Edit: I agree with JDflowergirl above.

Re: Yale waitlist thread, 2011-2012 (c/o 2015)
I think it's very unlikely that HYS are all at capacity. My reasoning is as follows: schools admit people using an algorithm based on the school's predicted yield. For example: if Yale has about 75% yield and 200 spots in each class, then Yale should theoretically admit about 265 students. However, Yale (and Harvard and Stanford) has to aim low, because there's always the possibility that yield will be higher than usual, and they don't want to overbook the class.
HYS are in nearly direct competition with each other. (While there are some people who'll take CCN over HYS, there aren't many.) If one school has slightly higher yield than it expected, that means yield will be slightly lower than expected at the other two competitor schools (or at least one of them).
I really hope this is actually sound logic and not just delusional hoping.
Also - here's an interesting factoid for people (like me) who are triple-waitlisted at HYS: in the last three years, there have been 15 reported triple-waitlists on LSN. 8 out of those 15 were accepted to at least one of the top 3. Not that our sample size is statistically significant, but still: those aren't bad odds.

This is one of the many reasons why u will be attending one of the top 3 law schools in the fall!! I think you have a good argument.

The lack of WL movement well beyond the point at which it has typically happened in past years is telling. I'd be surprised to hear anything at this point. It also seems that this lack of Yale WL movement is what's holding up concomitant HS WL movement.

The Yale WL movement is too little to affect HS...the movement that really affects the T-14 is Harvard's since they usually pull a significant amount from their WL.

Just to clarify: are you suggesting that Harvard pulls a larger percentage of its WL than Yale or Stanford, or just saying that H will precipitate movement because it's total #s (including its WL) are so much larger?

Both.
If there is any school that will precipitate movement in the T-14 it would be Harvard (and maybe Columbia) because of the number of people it pulls and its ranking. Amongst the T-3, Yale might be the schools that precipitates more movement but I doubt that Harvard/Stanford will wait for Yale to pull from their WL before sending out their own offers...waiting for 5-10 offers would be pointless.

Just so you all know, 5 people were admitted off the waitlist this week and have been added to the facebook group yesterday and today...so there is, indeed, movement.

im happy there is movement but are u sure they were from the WL...they could have been admitted earlier and just joined the group latebrown822015 wrote:Just so you all know, 5 people were admitted off the waitlist this week and have been added to the facebook group yesterday and today...so there is, indeed, movement.

Actually, this doesn't surprise me too much. I bet they were admitted last week. They had time to receive their financial aid and accept Yale's offer. This week they were put on the FB group. I seriously doubt they were admitted this week. Yesterday was commencement for Yale. I do think it's odd that of the 5 admitted, none of them were on TLS or LSN.

Is there confirmation that they are WL->Admits and not just people who joined the FB group late? ... like after finally depositing. This is actually possible.
But it would be nice to know if they were WL---Admits or regular admits
