Re: Pitt c/o 2015
Hi all. I applied to Pitt in early October, went under review on 10/19 and received my acceptance letter on 11/17. I'd love to attend Pitt, but was disappointed to see that the mailing from Pitt did not include any information regarding a scholarship or financial award. Pitt is pretty much my top choice, but it might be hard to justify the cost in comparison to some other options.

I saw your stats, mind me asking if you're URM?Steel City Kid wrote:Hi all. I applied to Pitt in early October, went under review on 10/19 and received my acceptance letter on 11/17. I am not trying to sound harsh, but with your numbers you weren't even a guarantee admit at Pitt so idk if I'd really expect a scholly. If Pitt is your top choice but you have other options... you can attempt to negotiate a scholly by bringing up other offers you got (especially if they're from better or peer schools).

Congrats! For the Dean's scholarship, you need a 161 and a 3.4. I'm hoping to hear back before Christmas, Pitt's my top choice.Steel City Kid wrote:Hi all. You dont need it, that makes it a guarantee. I would wait on some other acceptances and try to get money from others, and then use it to negotiate it. I applied very late last year, like late december or january, and was bummed that I didnt get any scholly money because Pitt was my top choice. I emailed them and they gave me 14k. I wouldnt do this until you have some leverage from other schools tho.89vision wrote:Congrats! For the Dean's scholarship, you need a 161 and a 3.4. Re: Pitt c/o 2015
Thanks everyone! allmodcons, my status checker simply says that my letter was mailed on the 15th, two days before I received it.
ThreeRivers, due to my lower GPA, I surely did not consider myself a "lock" for admittance, nor did I expect the anything close to the entire $14,000 scholarship. I guess I was just a bit too optimistic that some other things going in my favor (upward grade trend, higher LSAT, competitive undergrad) would help get at least a few bones thrown my way. All of that said, it's definitely not the end of world and I don't want to give the wrong impression. I'm actually very excited about being accepted to Pitt.
Also, just an observation on my part so please correct me if I'm wrong...but I've noticed often that Pitt either initially offers the entire Dean's Scholarship or nothing at all to accepted applicants. From there, like ThreeRivers mentioned, it seems that others in my position have been able to leverage scholarship offers from similar schools and ultimately got some money from Pitt.

Ah, that's what the head of admissions told me at a prospective student day. Must have been a slip up.bport hopeful wrote:You dont need it, that makes it a guarantee. I applied in late October and my application hadn't even gone complete as of yesterday. I emailed them that day saying I was really interested in Pitt. I got accepted via status checker today.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
