Gotcha. That makes sense to me. You don't have 1st semester grades at all?molazapuku wrote:We don't have any first semester grades ...so take this with a grain of salt as it is only my opinion and observation with no metrics to back it up.
You are talking 6 Saturday afternoons, half of which occur before you start to feel remotely stressed (read: when your first midterm makes you freak out about your study habits and finals come into distant view and when your first truly graded memo is assigned). This is not a catastrophic loss of productivity. And I am in the camp that one should cultivate SOME kind of life outside the law building or else it will drive you mad. There HAS to be a point of diminishing returns on your studies. Knocking off to watch a little football, having a baseball game on while you read the casebook...these things will NOT kill you. I do not feel behind my classmates in any sense and I have certainly not spent every waking moment studying the law. I will post at least SOME guidance if my grades reflected that (it will be somewhat generalized...I do have classmates on this board and I don't think it is too hard to connect the dots).
Now, if you choose to go to every single law school event thrown by every single student associate AND go to the football games...you may feel a bit more stressed. I see some people that seem to feel compelled to go to everything, I feel that just being a student this first semester and having some activities to keep yourself sane is enough. Then again I worry less about my resume than other folks (non-trad with work experience).
As for basketball...I dunno. I am not a basketball guy and didn't buy the tickets. Maybe next year. But you get 4 tickets and essentially pick your package (as I understood it) so it could be games 1-4, or games 5-8, etc. Seems like you could avoid the truly stressful points fairly easily.

Re: Missouri Class of 2015
Just a few pass/fails (where everyone passed). Half the class has had a midterm grade to speak of, but our class took it really late and are still waiting for the grades. I expect those back middle next week, and if I do really bad I will admit to it to a degree and say "hey, maybe you shouldn't listen to me"
Not a lot of grading before finals, hard to measure progress...that is the BIG difference between law school and undergrad. Not many changes to say "huh...I though I knew that but need to read it some more. " or "Boy, my study habits must have SUCKED! I better re-think this before it's too late!". when you get the answer to those questions, it is mostly too late.

Makes sense. I'm actually heading up to Columbia next weekend- does the law school do tours over the weekends?

I honestly dont know about the weekends. Have you been in contact with Michelle Heck in admissions? Ask her, maybe a student ambassador can meet you on campus. Also, I am sending you a private message

Do Mac's work with the exam software the school uses?

The newer (newest?) OS works with our exam software, yes.

Ford...correct me if I am wrong (PC user) but wasn't there SOME question about the latest Mac OS? I think it was just questionable, but they thought it would be officially supported within the near future.

There was, but I don't think anyone had a problem. I guess we'll find out if it screwed anyone Tuesday.molazapuku wrote:Ford...correct me if I am wrong (PC user) but wasn't there SOME question about the latest Mac OS? I'd be surprised if they made you wait too long.thelawschoolproject wrote:Juuust submitted my app. Hope it doesn't take forever to hear back . . .

Is Mizzou particularly stingy with scholly offers?

Common consensus is that Mizzou won't give you a lot of money, but because they're a public school it's still likely to be cheaper than most.CPM723 wrote:I'm also interested in hearing an answer to this.thelawschoolproject wrote:Is Mizzou particularly stingy with scholly offers?

Gotcha. Will they give some money to those who are out-of-state and are above the medians?

I know they sometimes offer out of state students in-state tuition.CPM723 wrote:Gotcha. Will they give some money to those who are out-of-state and are above the medians?
But, I'm in-state and above both medians and I know that I don't have a chance at anything more than half tuition.

That's still not bad! We won't find out about scholarship info until January though, correct?

Yeah, that's how I understand it. Their scholly deadline is Jan. 15th I think, so they probably don't hand them out after that.CPM723 wrote:That's still not bad! We won't find out about scholarship info until January though, correct?

True. If I have gone to school in Missouri the past four years, but am out-of-state, do you think they are more likely to extend an in-state offer?

Do you have a strong connection to the state? Have you thought about just becoming a resident?
I'm not sure what factors they take into consideration when offering OOS applicants in-state tuition. But, my assumption is that if you're above both medians, have a good PS, LORs, and softs then, yeah, you'd have a shot.

Yeah, my hometown is pretty much right outside of CoMo so I'm really familiar with Mizzou. I applied two years ago (before deciding to teach for a while) and was accepted. I went to their Admitted Students Day and didn't have a very good experience. But, as a native Missourian one can never abandon the idea of being a Tiger, so I'll try again.

Re: Missouri Class of 2015
I didn't like the class that I sat in on. They were discussing affirmative defenses and the students appeared extremely disengaged. They didn't discuss or answer questions. I want to attend a school that has vigorous discussions and active debate, with students who really want to be there. I didn't get that feeling from Mizzou. That and the ASD seemed a bit tacky to me. They didn't really have much planned for us other than listening to a lecture on financial aid, sitting in on the class and then having slices of cake. It just didn't impress me.

I understand. From what I have heard, they have made some big steps in the past year to attract more students.
