My brain is fried from working on my apps all day and I just want to make sure I'm not completely overlooking something. Berkeley does not ask/recommend that you write any additional essays besides the main ps right? No diversity statement, etc. needed? Did anyone submit an extra essay (not counting an addendum) anyways?

I submitted over a week ago, on 10/15, and still have not received any email from Berkeley confirming receipt of my application. Is this typical, or should I give admissions a call tomorrow?

FWIW, I submitted my application on 10/18 and received an email the very next day

Hi, Boalt 1L here.

Just FYI - there are plans in the works for reducing the class size even further from 252 this year to 235 or 240, for a variety of reasons mostly related to better scheduling, allowing tenured/tenure-track professors to teach more upper division courses, and in turn relying less on visiting professors to teach 1L courses. Another perspective is that this is to game USNWR rankings, but I personally doubt that's the case.

Get those apps in early!

I did not submit any additional essays. I tried-- spent an entire day trying to write a diversity statement. I chose to not send one in, as opposed to sending in something that sounded contrived or overused. (Maybe I should have done it anyways? I'm trying not to worry about it now :( )

Berkeley does recommend a DS in their App instructions. They say to submit it as an addendum.

Now I'm worried not writing one is really going to hurt my application

Would love to return to CA...although this will be a reach with my reverse-splitterness

their application states that while they allow for a 4-page PS, any additional addenda count towards that 4-page limit. do you think it would be better, then, to write a 4-page PS or a 2-page PS and a 2-page diversity statement (or 3 and 1)? pretty sure you don't have definite answers, but any tips or advice would be welcome :)

I applied 10/12, and my status since then has been "We have received your application."
I see that other people's statuses are either complete or under review... Should I be worried??

Sorry about previous post, just double checked and UC Davis has a 4-page overall limit (PS and addenda) while Berkeley's app says nothing about additional essays being included in that limit. Sorry for the confusion!

Why not? They've completed it and are ready to start reviewing so they can admit you! Doesn't sound too bad to me :)

Mine's still not under review. Then again I did only send it yesterday.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
