Re: Michigan c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
I recently took a tour and talked with an admissions counselor. A few things:
1. The campus is as beautiful as the pictures. Yes, the reading room look like Hogwarts, but why did I never notice the fluorescent green rug in pictures of the library?
2. Our tour guide said the Lawyer's Club will be closed F12-Sp13 for a $20 million renovation. I don't know if this has been talked about, but it was news to me.
3. The admissions counselor said that the median LSAT was again 169 and the merit-based scholarship threshold isn't set yet, but should be right around there. Made it seem like need-based would be hard to come by, though I guess that's not news.
4. They really stressed personal statement and why Mich essay. They said they would take someone with lower numbers who seemed like a good fit versus someone with a 4.0 and 180 who seemed like they wouldn't. And that's a quote. Again, nothing new but from the mouth of the beast.
5. $1 grilled cheeses at the law school snack bar. This can have a place in my why Michigan, right?
Hope this helps!

Between all the PSU football pics and this statement, I'm going to have to personally write Michigan to not admit you.PSUdevon wrote:Anyone else put ketchup on their grilled cheeses?ketchup wrote:I recently took a tour and talked with an admissions counselor. A few things:

I might just not be up on how M does aid, but what does the bolded mean? I wasn't under the impression that everyone admitted over LSAT X got merit aid, but if that's the case (or something similar) it'd be good to know.ketchup wrote:I recently took a tour and talked with an admissions counselor. Sorry to deviate from the previous topic.
I was wondering what you guys thought of Michigan's optional essay seven, "How might your perspectives and experiences enrich the quality and breadth of the intellectual life of our community or enhance the legal profession?"
Is this essentially a tweaked diversity statement or is this focused more on academics?

Oh hey guys. Looks like I'm in for summer term. Stress for upcoming cycle = gone, as you know, I no longer have one. So, future classmates: sup?
Oh also, my mother congratulated me by sending a Michigan Law e-card. This is the world we live in.

I'm super excited, don't get me wrong, but I think I'll always wonder "what if" about completing a regular cycle. Not that I feel at a major disadvantage for not trying my hand at a higher-ranked school, and I think Michigan is the right fit for me all around, but I will always sort of wonder if I could have managed to finagle some aid out of it.JamMasterJ wrote:I'm jellydescartesb4thehorse wrote:Oh hey guys. Oh well. I'm going to my dream school without retaking/rewriting 14,000 essays and I get to just troll around the boards making fun of your anxieties for the next 10 months. Life is sweet.

I wonder how much action the waitlisters are having because I just found out a friend of mine got in yesterday. I think he was originally planning on like Loyola or something so a huge bump for him. Pretty awesome.
