Re: Michigan Waitlist 2011
Does anyone know how many people actually stay on the waitlist after receiving it? This whole process is nerve wracking, though in response to an earlier comment, I talked to a lady at the admission office and she did say all waitlist correspondence in terms of acceptance is done via phone call and the releases tend to be done via email, so maybe we won't have to wait as long. In conclusion, this blows.

God I hope they send an e-mail (if no phone call)! waiting for mail at international address is 10x worse!IgnatiusJ wrote:I talked to a lady at the admission office and she did say all waitlist correspondence in terms of acceptance is done via phone call and the releases tend to be done via email, so maybe we won't have to wait as long. Gotta wait till after April 30th at least. That's the first deposit deadline. Unless they've overenrolled. Which will probably happen. Cuz they jumped in the rankings. Oops there goes hope. At least Archer will keep me warm and safe with gummi bears and scotch.

Re: Michigan Waitlist 2011
To be honest, being released might be better. Last year they accepted one or two people from the waitlist for the summer start... and then they dragged along everyone else on the waitlist till August before disbanding the it without accepting anyone else. Considering that it sounds like they are already over enrolled, the waitlist could be a long, ultimately disappointing ride. I guess what I'm saying is don't get your hopes up.

I visited and met with an admissions counselor, she informed that right now it is looking like it is going to be a really slow year for the waitlist. How depressing

Not surprising, but that really IS depressing.313D313 wrote:I visited and met with an admissions counselor, she informed that right now it is looking like it is going to be a really slow year for the waitlist. How depressing

Just finished reading last year's thread and the first 4 pages of this year's. Looking pretty bleak
Any guesses on how many people are left after that initial cut?

today's the deposit deadline. I wonder how long it will take them to determine how few (if any) WLers will be admitted.

it looks like they're over-enrolled. i'd guess we won't see any movement until after the second deposit deadline.
but it'd sure be nice to see a few of us admitted next week.

hoping the class was just over-eager and deposited early and there will be a few spots next week. doubtful though.jacmelmorning wrote:it looks like they're over-enrolled. i'd guess we won't see any movement until after the second deposit deadline.

Re: Michigan Waitlist 2011
+1 ... but by all accounts it's unlikely. They've overenrolled 2 years running and I heard many on the WL last year were told to ED in the fall and had a big advantage over 1st time applicants. Michigan's jump in the rankings also may have swayed a few of those students who chase rankings (and yes, they exist), or at the least had more commit to the initial deposit. I'm holding my breath, but I don't expect to see much movement.mistermister wrote:hoping the class was just over-eager and deposited early and there will be a few spots next week. doubtful though.jacmelmorning wrote:it looks like they're over-enrolled. i'd guess we won't see any movement until after the second deposit deadline.

Re: Michigan Waitlist 2011
I love Michigan so much that I would seriously consider doing this even though I can hardly wait to quit my job and just get LS started. I don't think words could even describe how I would feel if they suggested this to me and I reapplied ED only to not get in.fingersxd wrote:+1 ... but by all accounts it's unlikely. The website says they will be releasing people before the end of April via email. I wonder if those of us have not received a email yet have survived the first cut or we will find out on monday?

Who knows? As of right now I'm pretty sure I'm still alive though...313D313 wrote:The website says they will be releasing people before the end of April via email. I wonder if those of us have not received a email yet have survived the first cut or we will find out on monday?
Edit: also, my status checker still says waitlisted.

Huh? The waitlist FAQ section of the Michigan Law website specifically says "we will communicate with those who are being released via regular mail."313D313 wrote:The website says they will be releasing people before the end of April via email. I guess i misread it, but i can almost swear it said via email. Anyways, the Michigan 2011 post confirms people are receiving the news by regular mail. Sorry for the confusion

Re: Michigan Waitlist 2011
The word seems to be that people are receiving their releases by postal mail, but their status changes to reflect it. i.e.-if your status still shows you as WL then you haven't been cut. I emailed admissions to double-check this but haven't gotten a reply yet.313D313 wrote:chimp wrote:Huh? Re: Michigan Waitlist 2011
anyone thinking of asking for a deferral? from the waitlist faq, seems that it might be an interesting alternative for WL folks who are committed to michigan and have something interesting they could do with the extra year.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
