First time I've gotten a letter from the dean where the actual typewritten portion was personalized (not just a form letter with a handwritten sentence at the bottom). BYU's really winning me over. No scholly, but it's still a good price.

I don't want to find the reference but I read on their website that scholarships are completely numerically based and when I calculated my number (don't remember what it was called), I was below BYU's cutoff so I'm not surprised. I was just holding out a sliver of hope because I've won an award for being anti-competitive and thought BYU would be drawn to that.sunlitstars wrote:No scholarship? Not even quarter? Dang.

PS. Have you been accepted yet? I see we have the same numbers.

I have a friend in the admissions office and they said byu has reviewed nearly all the applicants and have sorted them into different piles like accept, maybe, reject and after the application deadline closes they will rereview them all and start sending decisions in april. So looks like it will be a quiet month.

sabenser is right. It is an index of 236 (you can find it on LSAC on your transmitted application to BYU).

Ya, thats really close. If you find any places online with scholarships that actually work for law students, please pass them along! Good luck to you by the way!

Pull up the report it sent to byu, go to your lsat score and it should say, "band, precent, index".

Can also follow this:
BYU Index = (GPA*19) + LSAT Score
Round up (at least mine was).
=/> 236 means consideration for scholarship.

Is it a bad sign that I'm not sure what C&F is? This makes me nervous. What else did he grill you on?sabenser wrote:Nice! Only that part felt like grilling. He offered admission afterward and the rest was advice on choosing a law school. To be honest, it didn't feel like he had even read my app before our meeting, so it came across pretty rote.

Accepted today via personal interview with Dean Hernandez. Nice guy. As per other comments, he just gave me some advice on choosing law schools and said they'd love to have me.
On another note, each part of this process has seemed the most difficult. Studying for and taking the LSAT, waiting for the school, getting applications together, waiting for results and now, the decision making...

What are you thoughts? I think I'm leaning towards BYU right now. I'm still waiting to hear from a few schools though.sunlitstars wrote:Accepted today via personal interview with Dean Hernandez. Re: BYU 2011
The biggest factor for me is money. I'll need to wait and hear from UofU on scholarships before I can really make a sound decision. I would almost prefer UofU (location and competition level), but it'd be way easier for my husband to stay in Provo, he's already transfered once. I just can't take on a ton of debt if I'm not even sure where I'm going to practice/how long I'm going to practice. It doesn't make sense to take on $50,000 in debt over 3 years only to try to find something part time.

Yeah, money will be a big factor for me too. I'm from Washington and am hoping that UW lets me in. I'm not fond of the competition at BYU either.

Congrats sunlitstars! In regards to not knowing where you will end up working, that may be something to consider about BYU in our decision making process. They have a fantastic national network. About half of the graduating class last year or the year before got jobs out of state. I see that as a huge pull since you never know where you may want to end up!
