IMHO, if previous cycles are indicative of anything (yes, I do realize that this is JR's 1st term ad AD), the "leftover" spots (after the May 1st deposit deadline has expired) will more than likely go to the non-trads, diversity candidates, interesting borderlines, etc. all to put a good 'cosmetic' touch to the incoming class profile. I say this because most trad candidates (those with stellar #'s) have been extended offers by now.

Of course, I could be wrong... take everything I say with a grain of salt... I'm just basing this assumption on previous cycles, where non-trads (even those NOT HELD or on the W/L) have been admitted merely weeks before class started.

For all your hopeless types out there, one of my LOR writers tells me a classmate of his got the call as he was driving to his backup school. So yes, there is still the slight infernal snowball's chance that you could get called up to the bigs in the dog days of summer, but realistically it's May or bust. Or at least, that's my take from observing LSN.

This, I hope! I have no idea why I've been WL'd- my numbers are way low for Harvard. That said, I'm not sure how much I can add to the "cosmetic" picture, either. Decent softs, but none of the cancer-curing you'd expect for someone with my numbers. Totally perplexing, but still pretty

Many people with stellar #'s have not been accepted. I'm 178/3.9 and waitlisted. I believe there's a 176/4.0 on the WL and a 179/3.8. And that's just off the top of my head. This is the year that they decided to break away from the numerical auto-admit trend.

I'm going to maintain hope until one day in August when they send us a mass rejection email. After all, that Anit guy on HLS in Focus did say he got accepted off the WL a week before he was leaving for his second-choice school (kinda like swampthang's LOR writer's classmate, but not as dramatic).

I wouldn't say this. On LSN last year, five people were accepted off the waitlist in May, one in June, two in July, and three in August. So almost half were accepted after June.

I wouldn't say this. On LSN last year, five people were accepted off the waitlist in May, one in June, two in July, and three in August. So almost half were accepted after June.

one reason to expect some pulls from the waitlist after June is that it seems unlikely Harvard has a problem with yield & would mainly pull from the waitlist because theirs was lower than expected. My guess is that most WL ---> admits are probably the result of an outright admit who accepted choosing to defer at some point in the summer...and really, that can happen anytime before class starts.

I agree wholeheartedly with the posters above. That's pretty much the impression I got during my <5 min chat with HLS admissions.

If I were to put a numerical guesstimate as to the number here, I'd wager and say ~100-40 spots, give or take, that HLS will target to fill by the time class starts. That said, though, I don't think HLS will exceed the 600 mark (they'll keep it slightly below).

Quick question to the WL'ds/HELDs -- are most of you undergrads with less than 2 years out of school? Any of you non-trad / >10 years WE? Just curious.

Correct. JR talked about this in one of his recent blogs. He explained as to why he'd deny a 178/3.9 candidate.

Don't lose hope, though.

People here (on TLS) really give way too much credence to bullshit like LSN. I'm not in that crowd. If anything, we know HLS doesn't follow any play-book, timeline, or historical precedent.

Absent an outright ding, anything is good (for now).

Yea, I can't imagine a LOR helping that much at this point.

Very small... Some will almost certainly get in off of it though.
