Shocked and thrilled to be here. It's just a delay of the inevitable, but still. Someone at some point thought I might be even remotely competitive.

I updated my GPA from a 3.89 to a 3.90... maybe that .01 will make harvard love me?!

Yes, I was wondering this, too. Since it took over a month for US mail to reach me, I'm assuming it works the other way around. :\ I'm afraid my ding may come before my updates reach them.

+1

Does anybody want to volunteer to call and ask how much time we are playing with? :) I know the email says they can't say for sure how much time it will take, but I'm sure they could give an estimate.

I really don't want to bother a new recommender if I'm going to get dinged within the next couple of weeks. Getting that new letter could take a few weeks.

Oh...one other thing. I really don't want to pay to send my new grades seeing as they haven't made any real impact on my GPA or anything. However, will they see it as a negative that I withheld grade information from them when they know I have it? I would hate for them to assume that I decided to tank my last year of school.

Does anyone think 2 new LORs are overkill, particularly if I sent 3 with my initial application?

yes. I would send whichever one is strongest, especially since you sent 3 to begin with. This way, if you end up getting waitlisted, you'll still have another shot to fire at them (though if you get waitlisted you may withdraw with Stanford in hand, but I digress).

True, this is the only push I'm going to make (I wouldn't ride the WL). Thanks!

I'm still following this thread  Why not tell HLS you're into SLS? Maybe play it up... or if you're extreme, you could tell them you'll withdraw from SLS for them

Yeah. I wouldn't though (withdraw, that is). Harvard has some attractive programs to me and faculty I'd love to have the opportunity to work with, so I think I'll highlight those differences with SLS.

Woke up to a hold this morning! I was UR 11/23. I was expecting one of the mass e-mail dings so I guess I should be happy! Does anyone know the chances of getting an offer after being put on hold? I didn't see that anywhere in the last 4 pages or so but I could have missed it. I want Harvard so bad, but I don't think I have a shot :(

Also, I'm abroad and am having my recommender send the letter directly and will mail an LOCI frmo abroad...did we clear up the LSDAS/Direct mail debate? Let the waiting begin!

Held as well -- sent in 2 more recs (total 4 now) and a LOCI. Ah the strange life of a Darrow & (likely?) Dinged from HYS applicant.

I guess I'll check in here. Held around the beginning of January. Sending a sincere LOCI with a rather specific reason soon... Maybe that will have some effect.

So, I'm sending my transcript into LSAC. Will Harvard just automatically know that they need to request a new LSDAS report?

LSAC should send out an update automatically to all the schools you've applied too.

writing LOCI this weekend - im going down swinging.

if you're out of school and haven't changed jobs or anything since you applied, what on earth do you say to them besides 'hey there, you're harvard.'
