As to questions about job prospects from Tulane, from what I have experienced here things presently are certainly challenging, but Tulane hardly struggles to the extent that lower ranked schools do. Tulane is, to paraphrase, who we thought it was, a T-1 school, strong but not elite, generally pretty well respected, and in some parts of the country has a reputation that belies its rank. If you do well here, you will be fine. If you don't, you will have to hustle. Also, in every other respect, Tulane is simply great. New Orleans is incredible, at least as far as I am concerned, and most people (if not all) end up falling in love with it. If you have the option of attending the elite schools, then it would be foolish to pass them up for Tulane, but beyond those choice schools, it is a pretty great place to end up.

Native New Yorker here...got a lot more money at Brooklyn Law School and would like to stay in New York. I've heard conflicting reports of Tulane's national reach immediately following graduation.

Anyone else hoping that Tulane will contact them before tomorrow's deadline for most other schools? Crunch time Tulane. I don't want to have to put down that $900 deposit to American unless I have to. Wish someone would call Tulane today and see if they are going to be sending any emails out by today or tomorrow. I would but I already called last week and I do not want to be a pest. Updated Complete 4/9.

I called a couple of days before going complete again (Tuesday), and they told me that I was just about to go into review, that I would hear a decision within two weeks, and that I might, and they stressed might, hear before the 15th.

yea, most likely. though it does seem like they may just be getting to mid-late February applicants with decent (not exceptional numbers) so who knows.

I was pretty set on Tulane; now I'm thinking Wake Forest might be the better bet.
This year's drop in rankings didn't influence me, but Tulane's steady decline over the past five years has me worried.
Thoughts??

Just withdrew today with $8500 dollar schollarship. Will be going to Houston instead even though it's lower ranked and I'm not getting money there. I liked Tulane more but I'm an engineer who wants to work in energy or patent law and I felt having my feet on the ground in Houston was better than the slightly better image Tulane has. And in this environment securing a job is #1. Hope I made the right choice... Good luck to all.

I will likely be going to Tulane regardless, I have lots of NOLA connections, a family (of sorts) here and the money was right. That being said, I wasn't thrilled to see the slight drop, particularly when a few of my other choices (like Davis) had big gains.

Haha yes I sure did. When it came down to it I couldn't justify paying 27k a year for Tulane vs 8k a year for UTK in tuition. I know that I would have more mobility with the Tulane degree, but UTK is still a good school with great placement in TN and a pretty good name in the south. Also, UTK had all of the clincs that I was interested in taking that Tulane had. Hopefully I made the right choice. Tulane is a great school, but money was a big factor for me.

I think a traditional strength of Tulane has become a significant detraction - the school's national reach. It's been said many times that students, relative to its rank, are more able to move around the country than peer schools. However, Tulane is surprisingly bad regionally. LSU is where Louisiana lawyer go; Tulane grads are considered outsiders. In fact, most Tulane students receive an education which is not as applicable to local studies. So if you're applying to the lower Tier 1 and wanted portability, Tulane was an excellent choice.
But right now in this economic climate, one really needs to attend a T14 or a strong regional. That said, Tulane is neither. When the legal market was flourishing, it was reasonable for Tulane students to expect an NYC job. But right now, that market is flooded with T14 students and regional students. Tulane is a good school with a significantly diminished national reach (due to the weakened job market) yet with little regional prowess to fall back on.
My main point is that the national reach of the school is now a problem considering the nature of the job market.
Communicate now with those who not only know what a legal education is, but can offer you worthy advice and commentary as you complete the three most educational, yet challenging years of your law related post graduate life.

well put. I would probably put Loyola-NO ahead of LSU, at least for New Orleans but all very accurate.

Sticker at Tulane, so 180k
12k at Brooklyn, so 144k.
