You'd be the second 168/3.9 today. I was median LSAT, median GPA and got in a few weeks ago, so I don't think Virginia is doing anything to mitigate their growing "black box-ish" reputation this year.Apple Tree wrote:OKay, that made me feel a little better...But my numbers are really borderline, especially my LSAT...YCrevolution wrote:They don't ask you to call unless they want to tell you you've been admitted.Apple Tree wrote:Just got home and saw an email from Jason at UVA wanting me to give him a call...hotmail is blocked at work. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_box i.e. unpredictability; schools particularly famous for this are Yale, Stanford, and Berkeley.Apple Tree wrote:What is that?Kretzy wrote: You'd be the second 168/3.9 today. It's funny but what people on here call a "black box"---everyone else int the world just calls "looking at things like one's resume, work experience, and extracurriculars instead of just grades and standardized test scores".Helmholtz wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_box i.e. unpredictability; schools particularly famous for this are Yale, Stanford, and Berkeley.Apple Tree wrote:What is that?Kretzy wrote: You'd be the second 168/3.9 today. YS and B aren't really "Black Boxes" they just don't like people who exclusively study. The people accepted to Y and S in particular have accomplishments beyond pulling a 4.0 in Poli Sci and a 174 LSAT while not doing anything else.

Yes. I think my statement might have come off as negative, but I like the way that UVA, Berk and the like approach admissions. I think it's a better model for finding a class full of people I'd like to graduate with, rather than (just) compete against.kurama20 wrote:It's funny but what people on here call a "black box"---everyone else int the world just calls "looking at things like one's resume, work experience, and extracurriculars instead of just grades and standardized test scores".Helmholtz wrote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_box i.e. unpredictability; schools particularly famous for this are Yale, Stanford, and Berkeley.Apple Tree wrote:What is that?Kretzy wrote: You'd be the second 168/3.9 today. My roommate last year was accepted with 164/3.8x. . . but he had a pretty ballin' resume and applied ED.

Could you define "ballin'" in the above sentence?clevinger33 wrote:My roommate last year was accepted with 164/3.8x. . . but he had a pretty ballin' resume and applied ED.

Okay, it's official. I'm in!!!
He can't be any nicer on the phone. He even offered to put me in touch with somebody coming from my field (not law related) who went to ls there...I was like really that is just awesome! He actually remembered my profession and did a little bit chitchat with me...
I'm gonna have to say I'm pretty speechless right now, first of course because I never expected to get in so early. I was totally expecting being W/L...And then I was just amazed at how nice and proactive they are...

Re: UVA 2010, RD
Hey, so I've been mighty obsessed with the Georgetown thread lately, but I do have a question I've been meaning to post here. My status for UVA has been stuck at complete since 10/20. I'm no shoo-in, but I'd still like to know that I'm being considered. Should I call the admissions office to see what's up? Thanks!

Re: UVA 2010, RD
I would probably just wait...my status date changed about two weeks ago, after being the same for about a month...
If you are REALLY anxious, I assume you could email them or call them...but I don't know how much they would like it. Once your file is complete, there really isn't much you can do...
Good luck!

Sounds good. I'll try not worry about it for a couple more weeks. Thanks!
