Re: TLS c/o 2021 Applicants Thread
Thanks for this insight! For PBK, I did think the same, but the inclusion of Phi Kappa Phi (essentially the same thing as PBK - GPA-determined) makes me feel a bit confused. Anyway I will try to see if I could solicit one somehow and update the result here!#gobroncos wrote:I solicited a service-based waiver for a faith based service program two years ago and received one. I just sent in the application to try to get the same waiver this time. As to PBK, I *think* that the waiver is for active research projects/programs, so I'm not sure that just being a member of an honors society would be sufficient unless they are funding you to do a year-long research project of some sort.Aricole wrote:Finally checking in (though a long-time lurker already)!
Also just asking if anyone knows about Berkeley waivers - it is said on the website that Berkeley does not offer merit-based waivers. Has anyone got waivers not because of PeaceCorps/active duty/etc.? I also saw that its program/honor-related waiver application includes Phi Kappa Phi, would PBK work instead?

Checking in, taking the September test. While we're talking about diversity statements, do you think it's a good idea to write one about being from a family farm in an incredibly small, rural town in the Midwest, if I plan to apply almost exclusively to schools on the coasts?

No. I know a fair few people applying to coastal LSs with that kind of background (myself included); I don't think it merits a DS. Could be something to bring up in a PS though.TedBuckland wrote:Checking in, taking the September test. Imo, suitable DS topics are mostly limited to: minority, LGBT+, disability, poverty, and maybe a few select others.

If you look at LSN, it's quite clear that WUSTL is a pure numbers school too.chargers21 wrote:FINALLY. A school stops beating around the bush and just tells it like it isrowdy wrote:LMAO Did y'all see that the personal statement and resume are completely optional for WUSTL?

thought y'all might wanna be aware of this: There are 46,572 registrants for the Sept #LSAT, currently an increase of 11.6%. --

Just got a hand-signed letter from the Dean of Admissions at UMich along with a "thicc" package of materials and a handwritten note commending my academic performance. Came out of the blue.
What an omen.

I think that's definitely part of it at least. honestly kinda blows my mind that people can be like "Trump is president! lemme go to law school and stop his evil deeds!"Platopus wrote:Nah, it's the Trump Bump. I'm guessing it's more people making a last second decision to attend law school. I doubt they've really thought about this decision and I doubt they'll study enough to produce enough high LSATs to really mess with the top-tier schools. This is what I want to believe, anyway.proteinshake wrote:thought y'all might wanna be aware of this: There are 46,572 registrants for the Sept #LSAT, currently an increase of 11.6%. --

Right?! I thought it was really classy as well. I'm definitely going to apply (I was before, but now I'm giving them a closer look).Platopus wrote:Got the same thing, I thought it was super classy. Also got unsolicited Texas waiver. Out of state but might apply.
Question: I'm a pretty extreme splitter, do they do these waivers purely off of LSAT scores or do they see GPA as well?
