Does anyone have an opinion about 120k from USC vs. 30k from UCLA? USC is more expensive in general obviously, but I want to end up in the Bay Area afterwards. I'm wondering of one is better for that

I see some people getting less money with high scores. That indicated that apps actually have gone up which is not good news.

USC tuition will be 50k more, so the difference is about 40k. I would probably go for USC for SoCal but UCLA for the Bay Area.ABlaw wrote:Does anyone have an opinion about 120k from USC vs. 30k from UCLA? UCLA might be slightly better for the Bay Area, but I don't think it's worth 90K.ABlaw wrote:Does anyone have an opinion about 120k from USC vs. 30k from UCLA? USC is more expensive in general obviously, but I want to end up in the Bay Area afterwards. I'm wondering of one is better for that

Re: USC c/o 2020 Applicants Thread (2016-2017)
My sense is that USC places comparably to UCLA for SoCal, but UCLA has a slight edge in prestige that travels farther to the Bay Area and outside CA. For example, over the past 3 years, UCLA had 89% and 6% of grads taking the CA and NY bar exams, respectively, compared to USC's 95% taking the CA bar.armc808 wrote:Why would UCLA be better for the Bay Area?goldenbear2020 wrote:USC tuition will be 50k more, so the difference is about 40k. I think you have to take classes size into account as well. UCLA often has 100 more students a class.goldenbear2020 wrote:My sense is that USC places comparably to UCLA for SoCal, but UCLA has a slight edge in prestige that travels farther to the Bay Area and outside CA. these are percentages tho so I'm not sure why gross number would change the relevanceMr_Chukes wrote:I think you have to take classes size into account as well. Re: USC c/o 2020 Applicants Thread (2016-2017)
In a vacuum, I would think UCLA is slightly better for the NorCal, but I would take USC with the net difference in tuition- don't think it would be worth the extra $50K or whatever it is. For either school, you'd want to be proactive/have ties. This is just my opinion based off my observations as a USC student so YMMVABlaw wrote:Does anyone have an opinion about 120k from USC vs. 30k from UCLA? I'm not ABlaw, but if you email Dean Schwartz, he will be happy to hop on a call with you and give you an estimate for your package. I talked to him this week and he was very gracious.Rigo wrote:How do you know your UCLA $$?ABlaw wrote:Does anyone have an opinion about 120k from USC vs. 30k from UCLA? I just thought maybe there would be more people who would self select out of the market with a bigger class size. There is more people who could want to stay as well. I'm tripping lol.Colonel_funkadunk wrote:these are percentages tho so I'm not sure why gross number would change the relevanceMr_Chukes wrote:
Actually now that I'm thinking about it. Why do we care about mobility outside of the CA when we are talking about firms in an area inside of CA. What if Bay Area firms see USC and UCLA as identical. If I was dude though I would go with the money or find which school I liked better and tried to have them match the money.
