I was just accepted to Berkeley yesterday and I feel like if I attended I would stick out like a sore thumb being relatively moderate. I also feel like I might have been accepted because of that, as a bit of a diversity thing

Speaking with a good friend of mine who is now a 2L at NYU (but also spent time in Berkeley as he was weighing his options, both of which are very liberal schools), he came away with the impression that there was an obvious liberal bent to the people there but they weren't obnoxious or "in your face" about politics, and the subject comes up less often than you'd think. When politics does come up, though, most people know how to communicate their views in a respectful way (even if they are firm about their views). Considering that Boalt is among the top professional schools in the country (and I do want to emphasize the professional part), I wouldn't worry about people shaming or shutting you down just because you're not a liberal. Let's not forget, they have a thriving Federalist Society chapter there as well.

Oh, I'm not too worried about any shunning or political arguments with liberals as I vote mostly blue because of my liberal social views. Which I assume is the issue that most total liberals probably prefer a moderate to be for. Some of the economic and firearm laws are definitely hard to reconsile myself on as far as long term living in California, though.

I've been in the Bay awhile, attended Cal. Honestly, nobody cares as long as you're respectful. The type of things that would get you shouted down are anti-LGBT rights, anti-abortion, racism/sexism, and because it's 2017, supporting Trump. The student body (at least the undergrad) is politically apathetic relative to the stereotype, even if it does lean left.

100% agree, I'm from the Bay Area as well and as long as you're not anti civil rights, you're typically fine. I'll add on that being pro-firearm will probably not get you shouted down, but people will definitely look at you funny. Economic views typically don't even really come up, particularly now that national focus has shifted more to social problems.

edit: my buddy was talking about Detroit and I wrote Detroit instead of Berkeley. Detroit Law here I come.

What does everyone want to do in law?

I'm thinking BL litigation sounds like a fair middle between my potential interest in litigation and my definite interest in money. Still trying to figure out the whole thing about litigation having awful exit opps though. Trying to sift through everything on TLS is so stressful. Lol. My dream would probably be like entertainment/sports law though.
