Some winters will be better than others. Overall, I'd say they are not too different from upstate NY. In fact, depending on where in upstate NY you are coming from, they might be better in South Bend. Some parts of Upstate NY are constantly getting hit with massive amounts of lake effect snow. SB gets some lake effect snow, but it's not terrible.

Re: Notre Dame c/o 2019 Applicants
I had a rear wheel drive stick shift sports car. Basically the worst car possible in snow. If you are a good driver you won't have problems because its a relatively flat area. Don't get me wrong, you will get a lot of snow and have to be careful, but I only got snowed in one time.well not sure who actively checks here so figured I'd tag everyone who has lived in SB (I think y'all have, kinda skimmed quick to grab names just now)
How would y'all say the winters are? I know there's lake effect which I had in upstate NY but not sure if its to the same degree. Is there a lot of snow throughout the winters? I currently have a cobalt coupe (FWD i believe) and am thinking about buying my buddy's grand cherokee. Partly bc I want a Jeep, but partly to deal with driving easier in the weather. If I get it am I going to be thinking how silly/unnecessary it was come winter?
While I was still upstate NY I had a car with 4wd and it was great driving in the snow and def came in handy where my current car would have been a big pain (granted I know I did much more stuff up there than I prob will in SB) but not sure how similar the winters will be.

Re: Notre Dame c/o 2019 Applicants
I spent four years at ND for undergrad, and it's really not that bad. I drove several times a week for off-campus commitments, and only had trouble a couple times. It does snow, and South Bend isn't great about plowing, but as long as you're careful it'll be fine. And I have a crap car for snow and absolutely hate driving in it.irish921 wrote:I had a rear wheel drive stick shift sports car. Basically the worst car possible in snow. I have a front wheel drive car and love driving in snow. You shouldn't have much trouble, but yeah, it does snow a lot. Can't imagine having a rear wheel drive car though, seen a few bmws stuck on the side of the road over the years.

lol I am mainly just trying to justify buying my buddy's Jeep since it's costing me my current car +2k (plus worse mpg) which isnt really bad for the Jeep with the work he's put into it. I do like it, its a powerful beast, I am just adverse to spending money lol

Depends where you are living. If you are living on campus or walkable distances, it isn't bad. I think South Bend does a pretty crappy job on their streets when it snows.Smallville wrote:ndirish2010 wrote:irish921 wrote: .mu13ski wrote: .ND2018 wrote:DJ2k15 wrote:Effingham wrote:bluefish91 wrote:well not sure who actively checks here so figured I'd tag everyone who has lived in SB (I think y'all have, kinda skimmed quick to grab names just now)TirantMartorell wrote: .

For those wondering, I lived in out in Mishawaka. Still had no problems driving in through the snow. Just gotta learn the lights and time them right because there are a few spots where, if you stop in a rear wheel drive no traction control car, you aren't going forward again.irish921 wrote:I had a rear wheel drive stick shift sports car. If they actually shrunk it again this week, that's the second round of releases they've made since April. We've made it this far so hopefully that's good newstrimm wrote:Anyone else see any movement this week?

so at this point, does ND have any seats that they want to fill? I hear the class is larger than what ND ultimately wants, but some people have been saying they are taking their time to fill the few remaining seats? any clarifications?

I don't know which it is. But it got so late I gave up on the waitlist. My status was still receiving waitlist consideration as of yesterday. Re: Notre Dame c/o 2019 Applicants
They posted a June 10th update on the waitlist site saying they're keeping a condensed list for consideration later on if need be. But, if not, basically they're recommending reapply or send a transfer app?
Not sure if this condensed list has been contacted?
I'm happily off the waitlist at another school now, but thought I'd point out this website update. I haven't got an email or anything releasing me and my status still technically says under review.

That info was from somewhere on this thread from someone who claimed to have gone in for a visit, but then again, everything must be taken with a grain of salt on the threadmnelsa14 wrote:Where did you hear that their class was larger than what they wanted?dondondondon wrote:so at this point, does ND have any seats that they want to fill? Re: Notre Dame c/o 2019 Applicants
Spoke with the director of admissions yesterday afternoon over the phone (super nice guy, very colloquial). I had a recent stroke of fortune and was able to improve my LSAT from 160 to 165 after the June test scores were released (I'd been riding out the waitlist since late March). From our conversation, it appears as though they're definitely considering some candidates from the waitlist. That being said, they have very little left to offer by way of scholarships. The gentleman stated that 15k a year was the absolute best they could do for me if I were to join the class of '19. He did, however, give me the option of deferring my enrollment to the class of '20, with a scholarship that, in his words, would be reflective of what they would've offered me had I applied earlier in the cycle with my current stats.
I say all this to give those of you who are riding out the waitlist hope. No mention was made of this year's class being oversubscribed. On the contrary, he asked that I give him my response by next Wednesday so that admissions could then decide on how to proceed with certain waitlisted applicants.
Hopefully this post is helpful to at least some of you!

Honestly if I were you I would still retake, with your high gpa, you could easily get a few more points and get into a t14. I went from a low 150's to 164 in four month by taking 20 practice tests, and that is it, no other studying.
Those left waiting; here's to hope, it's all we got!

Re: Notre Dame c/o 2019 Applicants
Sadly, I've maxed out my retakes. I scored a 160 in Oct '15 and got the same score in Feb after intensive restudy. I attribute the lateral performance entirely to anxiety; I was a wreck during the Feb exam. June was entirely different; I had already deposited at another school, and took the June exam with a nothing-to-lose attitude after only briefly refreshing some of the material.trimm wrote: Honestly if I were you I would still retake, with your high gpa, you could easily get a few more points and get into a t14. Well it is still a good score. You should get at least half scholarship with those stats, but if you can't wait it's good to know you got something.
OTOH if you can wait you could take ND as a safety and apply to a couple others, game the system a little.
Anyways congrats again.

Same exact situation for me - jumped to 168 and was given those two options as well.

Which course of action do you think you'll take? With a 168, you probably have a decent shot at T14, yeah?RoryC wrote:Same exact situation for me - jumped to 168 and was given those two options as well.
