+1 interested in this. was also placed on reserve today after completing my interview Friday. I know the reserve list is nonbinding, but what is the timeline for hearing from them again? Will my app be viewed again? What can I do to increase my chances of being viewed positively?cecrum wrote:I just got put on reserve, which was kinda surprising to me (75, <25 with medical addendum). Does anyone know anything about Cornell's reserve list? I dont really know how to feel right now.

Re: Cornell Law School c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
They reserved you on Christmas Eve!? That's pretty shitty of them tbh. I feel like this is a week law schools shouldn't do anything but admit.MikeChristopher wrote:Just got placed on the reserve list today. This was somewhat unexpected because my GPA is >75 and my LSAT was median based on last year's numbers.
Is it strange that I was never asked for an interview? Is it possible that I received a call about an interview and missed it?
Also, I'm being told to express my continued interest via email within the next two weeks. Should this be a super brief email or something with some substance to it?
Any guidance or comments from people in a similar situation would be much appreciated.

They only email for interviews, but it could have gone to your spam folder? It also would've said something on your status checker about requesting an interview.MikeChristopher wrote:Just got placed on the reserve list today. For the LOCI, I would go ahead and make it a little more than just "I'm still interested." elaborate on why Cornell, but maybe save some stuff if you want to send another more detailed letter later in spring if you haven't been admitted yet.
Also, if you haven't already it might be helpful to look through last year's Cornell applicants thread and see what people who were put on reserve did last year.

Nothing to see there. A couple of people got off reserve by mid-february (both URMs) and one person got in last minute off the summer waitlist. No mention of anything special except that people speculated (and many others disagreed) that by mid-feb. they had their numbers on lock so that went to reserved URM students first. (No mention of them digging deeper at all though)kjm1992 wrote: Also, if you haven't already it might be helpful to look through last year's Cornell applicants thread and see what people who were put on reserve did last year.
Apparently there was a ~300 reserve list which serves as their quasi-WL. People didn't get waitlisted until much later.
Last year the interviews seemed to be exclusively for YP people (although 1 person was dinged and 2-3 were reserved) and it seemed to play some role in scholarship offers.
If anyone feels like digging into prior years links to those threads are in the OP.

Re: Cornell Law School c/o 2019 Applicants (2015-2016)
Popping in after lurking a bit. Just got my reserve email yesterday (12/24) and am a little confused. I'm in at Duke via PT, WUSTL with a near full ride (Scholar in Law), and UCLA (no scholly info yet)... Was very optimistic about my chances at Cornell. Is this normal? Any insight to this year's cycle that might explain why I'm on reserve at Cornell? FWIW, 169/3.43 (from top Ivy undergrad) LGBT with strong softs and work experience.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Don't be so sure. I got into Duke and Michigan this cycle with a 166/3.79 - keep your head and your hopes up!MikeChristopher wrote:Me neither... Thought I was in pretty solid shape with 167/3.86. A close friend who went to a similarly ranked undergrad got in last cycle with 166/3.85 (and significant scholarship money to boot).percyt0 wrote:Didn't get an invite to interview.chickensoup1234 wrote:did you interview?
This now has me worried that for some reason the applicant field is much stronger this year and I'll be getting waitlisted from Duke & Michigan on down through the backend of the T14 (which are my target schools).

Yield protection. It refers to people well above both 75ths who are perceived as likely to attend a higher ranking school.Delacroix7 wrote:Just curious, what does YP stand for? The interviews seem to be for people above and close to their medians for yield protection. Also, they are concentrating now on early decision apps, which their are two rounds. After they get early decision people set they will move to regular, and they usually start with candidates at the top (as in high stats and splitter candidates).worldhunter wrote:App status checker = 12/24 "ready for review"
I believe this is my fourth date change (no interview invite). I sense bad news coming my way.
This is just my understanding.
Relax, go out and celebrate the new year. You'll get your decision probably in January or February
