Plus, I'll note that you come across a little entitled ITT. I have similar numbers to yours, I'm non-URM, and they offered me 6 figures & change. No offense to you personally, as I don't know you, but perhaps whichever adcomm read your file just didn't love what you wrote.

I know this has been mentioned, but what seems to be the general outcome with negotiating scholarships by discussing offers from USC?

If I were URM I would def be asking some hard questions before I paid any deposits ...

The guy accused me of hating on UCLA because I was dinged. I wasn't. I don't think the offer is anything special, but clearly I don't have ding-resentment/admit envy.itsbigred wrote:Excuse the first post, as I usually lurk (got in a while back, but still follow this thread occasionally), but the last few pages made me lolcron1834 wrote:Wtf are you talking about? That said, I admit I'm getting us off-topic and apologize for that. And I apologize to Samumenco for being unnecessarily prickish.
(At least I'm an actual applicant and not currently attending another school, though. That would be a true douche-move.)

Re: UCLA c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
The overall issue was actually brought up briefly during a small Q&A session during the admitted students day today and the current students echoed what NYC2012 was saying. It's definitely blown out of proportion when the media caught hold of it and though it is a bit of a unfortunate situation, you can't let the actions of a few extremist speak for the entire community. A large majority of the student panelists didn't even know what "the situation" was, and most of the ones that did haven't noticed it affect day-to-day life whatsoever (there were URMs in the panel, if you were wondering). I'm completely positive that racist remarks happen at every single other university, we just don't necessarily hear about it. I guess the question is how many of these "extremists" exist and whether it will be significantly distracting to your law studies. Not sure if that helps at all.cron1834 wrote:Thanks for the insight. Re: UCLA c/o 2017 Applicants (2013-2014)
There are isolated incidents everywhere. At Texas, we had an incident where people from highrise dorms were allegedly tossing bleach filled balloons onto blacks and hispanics below. I don't think anyone ever was caught but I would surely not say that it's something normal (being in Austin for 5 years as a URM).Frozinite wrote:The overall issue was actually brought up briefly during a small Q&A session during the admitted students day today and the current students echoed what NYC2012 was saying.
