Yup. If you can't tell, I'm ecstatic. I may maintain under 200k in debt with an aid package as generous as this.

Me too, for what it's worth, and they said they maxed me out on need and it was non-negotiable. I got no merit either, with a 171 but lowish GPA. Sorta surprised, but not really *shrug*. I hear good things about increasing the aid you qualify for as time goes on as well.Nari Rina wrote:Nope. I tried though - they basically just reiterated what we heard at the financial aid seminar. I wish this had the % of reported and known. I would bet it's significantly more than 20% just based on how many dozens of friends I have who are still unemployed.onionskin wrote:Hey guys check it out, UCH made the top 20 list of most unemployed graduates

will u stop bashing Hastings? Everybody can do their own research, don't need you to remind us how bad Hastings is everyday. Is there some story between you and Hastings?hiima3L wrote:I wish this had the % of reported and known. I'm a c/o 2012 UCH grad and I'm trying to help people avoid making a life-changing decision because of a number of my classmates who feel like they are now lifefucked due to attending UCH.maxmartin wrote:will u stop bashing Hastings? What I don't understand is how Hastings is so far up on that list when there are over 100 schools that are ranked under it. What else is it doing wrong vs. the TTTTs of the world?immikeyiiirock wrote:maxmartin wrote:will u stop bashing Hastings? In the case of Hastings, the prospects certainly warrant at least a little fear-inspired consideration of what we're getting ourselves into.
I think it simply has to do with the fact that Hastings is located in a region (SF bay area) that is one of the most over-saturated and highly sought after legal markets. Hastings students are competing with Berkley, Stanford, T-14, UCLA, Davis and USF/Santa Clara students for jobs. However, at the upper end Hastings students are still viewed as competitive for big law and boutique jobs due to the positive reputation on the school in the bay.unclepete wrote: What I don't understand is how Hastings is so far up on that list when there are over 100 schools that are ranked under it. well said, the difference between Hastings and TTTT is in Hastings you still have a chance to make into big law, although the odds is not in your favor, while in TTTT you do not even have this chance at all.superpippo wrote:I think it simply has to do with the fact that Hastings is located in a region (SF bay area) that is one of the most over-saturated and highly sought after legal markets. After asking the Career Services director about employment outcomes, I was told that 20% of Hastings students got employment through OCI last year (normally it fluctuates between 20-30%, 30% being an uncommon high). Considering ~50% of the class was employed 9 months after graduation in full time legal work, that is a fairly high percentage of employed students getting very favorable outcomes (roughly 40+%). With the 100+ student reduction in class size this will undoubtedly lead to better employment in general and could possibly lead to a higher % of the class getting jobs through OCI if firms desire to maintain the same yield of Hastings grads. The career services director said she'd be monitoring this closely and working with the firms that recruit on campus to inform them of the shift in class size.
So, essentially, I think the school is recognized favorably by employers. The top cut of Hastings students are considered competitive for big law with Stanford, Berkley and T-10 grads. This simply cannot be said for students who attend TTTT institutions. The issue is, however, that where normally there would be small/mid-sized firms and public interest jobs available for those at median and even below, there simply isn't because of the tough SF market. There are those at the T-14/UCLA with ties who struck out on big law and other students from local regional schools for Hastings students to compete with.
Overall the situation is important because Hastings has always been an academic institution that I've admired. After meeting many bright students (both enrolled and potential) It's hard to picture the outcomes that will befall many of them. Undoubtably one must be aware of the bleak employment figures that come with attending a non-T-14 in the bay area. All this being said, I think the shifts that the school is undergoing can only paint a brighter future for the institution and the students who choose to attend it.

The latter. Received 15,500 in grants and 10,000 for the scholly w/ the stip. UCH still beats UCD by milesmd22 wrote:The latter. Received 15,500 in grants and 10,000 for the scholly w/ the stip. I'm really debating between UCH and UCD right now, and the COA for Hastings is actually 5,000 less per year. However, while both schools entail a certain degree of risk, I feel that UCH may be a bit riskier given the news and discussion of its employment data. Am I wrong?boblawlob wrote:25k in grant money total? Or 15k grant + 10k Percy Scholly (3.0 stip)?md22 wrote:Just received the financial aid email. I was offered 25k for 1L.
