After 2 weeks of no update I emailed to see what was up and they got it done in a day or two. The residency office did say they were backlogged.matthewsean85 wrote:How long did it take all the in-states out there to be classified as in-state? I sent my application in to VA residency status checker several weeks ago, followed on with the application sent to the admissions office (I know, paranoid, but I wanted to get the process moving after like two weeks of waiting), and still haven't seen anything? I know VA residency isn't THE difference maker, but it can't hurt, right?

Re: UVA c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
For a few reasons, UVA has jumped up to probably second on my list. They're likely to give me a good scholly, and while in-state tuition isn't great, it's still better than nothing. NYU and Columbia are likely to give me next to nothing for scholly money, and Harvard isn't likely to admit me... so there's a good chance I'll be taking a short trip down 64 next fall.
Still, my list has changed about 40 times while waiting, so maybe some other school will jump up on my list, or maybe UVA won't give me much $. We'll see, I guess.

From what LSN tells me, 60k is probably what I can expect. Obviously nothing to sniff at, but with the much higher COA and the in-state 15k I get from UVA, it will likely be significantly cheaper. If I get more, I will obviously reevaluate my decision. I'm just feeling very debt averse now. I already have a pretty chunk of UG debt, and adding 200K+ on top of the 50k from undergrad is fucking scary.timeandspace11 wrote:With that 179 I would think you could get a lot $$$ from NYUNoodleyOne wrote:For a few reasons, UVA has jumped up to probably second on my list. I am in a very similar situation debt wise (UG+Grad) so I completely understand your apprehension. I am trying by all means to avoid 200k+ of debt. I was thinking of applying to Fordham but with their less than stellar dispersal of merit aid and the fact that New York City is a fortune to live in, I declined.NoodleyOne wrote:From what LSN tells me, 60k is probably what I can expect. I have a question. What it means if I haven't heard back from UVA so far? I've submitted my application in early Oct. and it went complete on Oct.15. Many people who went complete after that date already got in. What does it mean for my application? I should expect a ding soon?

Numbers? It's hard to tell. Also, unless your numbers are downright not-competitive, I'd expect a WL before a ding.gabriella97 wrote:I have a question. Scary for those of us who are hoping to hop on the "in-state" bandwagon at UVA! I sincerely doubt my numbers would've ever been good enough in the past, but are you so cruel to offer me additional hope? Only time will tell, I guess.Regulus wrote:As I mentioned back on page 28, I got in early RD with $$$ and have not-so-competitive numbers, so I would just keep patiently waiting until you hear back from UVA. This cycle is going to be good to a lot of people at a lot of different schools, so don't lose hope just yet.NoodleyOne wrote:Numbers? It's hard to tell. Re: UVA c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
I hear you on feeling debt-averse. Also - if you're a Virginian, is there any particular reason to spend more money on NYU or Columbia unless you really want to live/work in New York? For DC and Richmond UVA is probably the best school outside of HYS, and with less debt to worry about.NoodleyOne wrote:From what LSN tells me, 60k is probably what I can expect. Good luck getting $$$ from all these schools, you should have at least a few happy results.

I understand on BigLaw, but why not try Boston, Chicago, SF, ect... I believe starting salaries are very similar and a 100k+ salary can go a lot further in any one of those cities, especially Chicago.NoodleyOne wrote:Oh I definitely want to work in NYC. BigLaw or bust baby.

Re: UVA c/o 2016 Applicants (2012-2013 cycle)
I'm in the same boat as I applied first week of Oct and went complete shortly thereafter. 3.85, 170 so basically riding both medians but no movement. I am also not in the US for the cycle, so do you think that has any effect? For those accepted, did your status checkers online change before you were notified of admission? And did you get a call, email, or snail mail to let you know?NoodleyOne wrote:Numbers? It's hard to tell.
