I'm in UG at UT and there were some significant grumblings about Sager's expenditures and tendency to really divide the faculty. Our current Prez used to be the Law Dean, so I would assume when he asked for an immediate resignation that he sensed something wrong because Sager was already stepping down at the end of the year anyways.sarahmargie wrote:Magnifique1908 wrote:Bummer indeed. it looks like UT Law is getting a new dean.
He's staying on as a faculty member, just stepping down as dean.

On the day I got in to wustl, I got 4 emails from them: undergrad newspaper, alumni bulletin, and one asking for donations to artsci. I nearly deleted my admit email out of frustration with my UG.msblaw89 wrote:Very cruel ... Re: Texas 2011-2012 Applicants
I think the relationship between Powers and Sager had gotten pretty sour. And I think the request by Powers was prompted in relation to moving forward in terms of finding a new dean and new faculty hiring. Having a divided faculty makes both difficult and both are important to UT's long term health.hookem7 wrote:I'm in UG at UT and there were some significant grumblings about Sager's expenditures and tendency to really divide the faculty. I liked Sager, albeit my interactions with him were limited and from the student perspective. He might just be a person who is much better as a professor than a dean.

LSN might give out some helpful info on this, but if anything that idea seems backwards to me (without doing any research into it). TX residents already get a significant in-state rate discount and state law requires 65% of the class to be residents. I know they sometimes give in-state rates to out of state people, which is a decent scholarship in itself. I also know a few out of state people with in-state rates + additional scholarship money.jpal13 wrote:Does UT-Austin usually reserve most scholly money for TX residents

Has anybody that was in the EA batch of holds written a LOCI? I'm thinking of writing one, but just looked at the email and saw that the bottom said "no response required." I realize they probably just say that to keep you from annoying them, but also wondered if anybody had written a LOCI. I figure I should only write one if I get WL'ed, but I also looked at it as a chance to write a small Why-UT. Thoughts?

i'm not going to. partly because i'm not SUPER interested in texas, but mostly because we were deferred to RD, not waitlisted. we're still regular applicants like all the other RD people.imadude wrote:Has anybody that was in the EA batch of holds written a LOCI? I did. I wrote and mailed it right before new years. I cant see how it would hurt. I did not write a why UT so I used a little bit of it to write about why I want UT and a little bit of it to update the ad comm on what I had done in the past few months. Shows youre proactive and actually care about what they are doing with your file. I plan on sending one if I get WL'ed as well.imadude wrote:Has anybody that was in the EA batch of holds written a LOCI? I wrote mine within a couple of weeks of being held. It was part LOCI part and why Texas. Like mooseman, I also plan on writing another if I get put on the wait-list.mooseman2216 wrote:I did. Any idea when we'll see another round of acceptances (/dings)?

I finally got a status checker email today, a month after I submitted my app. Not holding my breath since I'm OOS and UT is a reach anyway, but they're my highest school after EDing UVA so... it would be a nice surprise.
Anyway, good luck to everyone!

Here's to hoping for some movement this week. It seems they started releasing more decisions around this time last year.

Perhaps if I told them my last name is McCoy...would that be considered a good soft credential?

Just got a call from admissions - in at UT! She mentioned a scholarship but didn't specify the amount, and I was too excited to ask!

Also got a call from Admissions, letting me know I was accepted! Same as above, she mentioned a scholarship but didn't specify amount, said I would receive a package in the mail.
My first acceptance this cycle, after 3 rejections and a waitlist, I'm pumped to get some good news. Plus I love Austin/UT.
