Re: U. of Florida c/o 2015 Applicants (2011-2012 cycle)
Does anyone know how the scholarship committee decides who gets the merit/need-based scholarships? I can't remember if the criteria were posted anywhere earlier in the thread. I know the general information that UF puts out about the awards, but I just wanted to see if anyone had any inside info. Thanks.

It never hurts to ask. I went for it and I have no idea how it'll come back but it's not like they're gonna be like "NO YOU CANT HAVE ANY MONEY ANYMORE YOU ENTITLED ASSHOLE."dolfan0516 wrote:Always ask for more.UMiamiCane wrote:I'd like to know this as well, although I'm torn about whether I should even try. UF gave me $9,000/year, my stats are 168/3.07, decent softs (lots of WE and a master's), choosing between UF and WUSTL with $$. Advice? I don't want to look ungrateful...beezy08 wrote:Has anyone successfully negotiated $$ with UF?
You'll either get more money, or be back where you started.

I'm not sure if that has been determined. Looking at LSN last year, it seemed random- maybe based on softs, but this year it seems like most people who have gotten in have received money. Check out LSN.

Check out LSN. 3.7+'s with 164 all have scholly offers at around 21-24k. 3.7+'s with 163's have nothing. To me, this indicates that the cut-off for the last batch was a 164 with exceptions for URMs or people with highly execeptional softs.VanillaBear wrote:Does anyone know how the scholarship committee decides who gets the merit/need-based scholarships? Did UF use a waitlist this early in the process in past years? If so, how do they notify? I have the decision reached letter in transit nstatus and I am very nervous its a waitlist. Thoughts?

160/3.7 are admit numbers. I doubt waitlists will be issued until mid-March.Benjamin1987 wrote:Did UF use a waitlist this early in the process in past years? If so, how do they notify? I have the decision reached letter in transit nstatus and I am very nervous its a waitlist. Thoughts?

Isn't it safe to say that the dings are going out through email? Someone posted the text of his ding email earlier ITT. If you haven't gotten an email, you're probably in.

Checked out the employment numbers UF put out for 2010 and was actually pleasantly surprised at the level of detail and not too discouraged by the numbers given ITE. About two-thirds had full time JD-required work 9 months out. Things didn't pan out for 1 in 3, though (assuming full-time JD req work is the goal).
Something to consider for recent admits.

Also, 2011 grad numbers should be posted at that link next week.

Is it true that only top 10% are allowed at OCI?Indifferent wrote:I can answer general employment questions if you have any.seancris wrote:Checked out the employment numbers UF put out for 2010 and was actually pleasantly surprised at the level of detail and not too discouraged by the numbers given ITE. How many UF students are finding paid work for 1L & 2L summers? Apx how many 3L's have work lined up at graduation?Indifferent wrote:I can answer general employment questions if you have any.seancris wrote:Checked out the employment numbers UF put out for 2010 and was actually pleasantly surprised at the level of detail and not too discouraged by the numbers given ITE. And can you give a conservative estimate of a typical starting salary for grads (not big law)? I asked the same question of a friend of mine who is a 3L at FSU and he said that it would be rare to find a grad making even 45k out, saying that 40k was more typical... would you say the same for UF?
Any UF Law students with insight on this, definitely provide your $.02
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
