Same here. But, in college I passed all of them GPA wise. In high school, I only cared about playing a Division 1 sport while in college. But of course, that does not help you get a career. For one, you can't make any money in women's sports and for two, I'm a decent runner (Sub 18 minute 5K) but I am nowhere near elite.HeavenWood wrote:LOL, I was the slacker amongst my HS friends. I think that depends on how hot you are. It's wrong but that's how it is.queenlizzie13 wrote: Same here. But, in college I passed all of them GPA wise. Certain sports, yes...like tennis...but I only played basketball and ran cross-country and track.r6_philly wrote:I think that depends on how hot you are. Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
I think they can only be holistic up to a certain point.
Take me for example. I went to college when I was 18, got a 2.0, and left school. Spent 4 years in the real world, came back to school made a 4.0 in all upper level courses over 2 1/2 years. My LSAT's at their 75th. Got tons of good softs to boot. Holistically, I should be a very competitive candidate, not a "risk". But since their class is only 200 or so, accepting me makes them take a huge hit.

Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
I wouldn't look it that way. I think it's more like - how many other similar competitive candidates are there without the 2.0 first year. If you are lucky, there isn't many, and you get in. If the pool is filled with people who accomplished just as much but without the bad first year then you will get pushed. So I don't think school worry about taking hit a hit, rather they just take from the top and see how deep the list goes.ihp12 wrote:I think they can only be holistic up to a certain point.

Re: Berkeley 2011 applicants
I here ya, and I think its probably both these things. And thats why I don't get all bent out of shape about it. I know their are people who made a 4.0 all the way through, and I don't stack up to someone like them. However, I think if rankings didn't matter so much, I would probably stack up better than someone with an identical LSAT that made a 3.4 all the way through. Of course, even then its not so clear, b/c you have different majors, schools, ect.r6_philly wrote:I wouldn't look it that way. Even if it was solely about protecting their medians, I would understand. Rankings are at least somewhat about numbers, and rightly so. And rankings influence where students apply. They're just responding to the market. (can you tell I'm an econ major yet

It's weird...I went to "Under Review" the day I got my status checker.
Is that strange?

Almost the same thing happened to me--I got my status checker email on 11/15, and I went under review later the same day. Haven't heard anything since, which I'm hoping is a good sign...NZA wrote:It's weird...I went to "Under Review" the day I got my status checker. Is that strange?

Huh...well, hopefully it's not just them looking at my application, then saying, "OMFG LOL!!!" and throwing it in the trash.c_dubya_s wrote:Almost the same thing happened to me--I got my status checker email on 11/15, and I went under review later the same day. Thanks for the encouragement guys! I guess I'll just have to learn to be more patientKnock wrote:Agreed. We really don't know all that much. But you have excellent numbers, and so you have a strong shot. But Berkeley definitely is one of the more holistic schools, so they want more than just numbers.r6_philly wrote:I don't think that's necessarily the case. We've only had 3-4 days of notifications so it's still quite early. We don't really know how the dean review process works, maybe apps that don't get in on the first review will get reviewed again for 2nd or 3rd opinions before handing off to committee review. I don't think the committee review starts for some time, so I think you still have a great chance of hearing back soon.MM326 wrote:Congrats to everyone who has gotten in thus far!
Just out of curiosity, if I've been under review since late October (171, 3.99) but haven't heard back yet, is it likely I'm probably headed for committee review?
Thanks!
Best of luck to everyone waiting, i'm rooting for all of you.
