What I learned from visiting schools is that students at each one all say "we're chill and nice, not like at [insert various other school(s) here]"

Also, "it's not like anyone is ripping pages out of each other's books or anything"

Yeah I heard that but the same student said he got his book stolen when he went to the bathroom in the library lol.

I got a lot of 'we have a reputation to be intense, but we're actually chill and nice'

I thought it was weird that a student one school put me in touch with said all the typical friendly, fun, etc but also slipped in that its obviously a competitive environment like they imagine most top schools are.

I mean, I assume everyone will be wanting to do their personal best. I just don't think there's gonna be anywhere where enough people are socially obtuse enough to manifest that as outright competition...

Anecdotally, my small-town Kansas kid friend (who was out student body prez, so really social guy) went off to GULC and the environment there is just not for him - he's gonna come back and do govt. work here, but he went from a really wholesome/genuine environment at our state school to a place where everyone is trying to be in the top of the class (not in a bad way, just a diff. outlook vs. undergrad) and it's interesting to hear his take on it.

This exact thing is said at every law school tour/ASW I think. A professor even said that to me at one school.

I don't think so? Can't really think of a more legit excuse to take a day off (if you are even asking about taking a long weekend). Also, congrats!

WUSTL still wants to know if I want to apply; they've offered me a third fee waiver now.

Woke up this morning at 4 am and took nyquil instead of dayquil. Ended up passing out before I got out of the house and woke up 5 hours later... No idea how to explain this to the boss

Thanks! That's kinda what I assumed - It's looking like it'll fall on the last weekend of June, so it might be a whole week off for the 4th for me - we'll see, I guess! I'll have to whether they let me or not haha

my friend is summering and it only lasts through July, so maybe August can be an option too. congratulations!

Hey there! This is me too. I was reflecting on this law school journey and now that my cycle is almost done, I gotta say that I'm amazed at how incredible the grind is.

You should be proud of yourself for having overcome so many barriers. I definitely see being a lawyer as a way to help raise my family's status and fulfill the American Dream that my mom pursued as we left our native country.
