60,000 Ivy UG at any given time. 40,000 at OSU, one state school. Sheer numbers suggest their must be some preferential treatment. (Not saying there shouldn't be.)

WhiteyCakes, yesterday I assume?
While I'm not necessarily disagreeing that there are less Ivy applicants than non-ivy, you have to consider that not all UG students are applying and of all the students tha DO apply to LS, even if they're in proportion to UG students (eg 60 ivy applicants and 40 OSU applicants is still proportional to your example).. They're not all applying to top schools and I'd argue Ivys are more likely to apply to top schools than are state schools... As a portion per school (of the Ivy applicants 80% apply to top.. But of the state schools 10% apply to top schools).

Obviously I picked the numbers out of thin air, but the "sheer number"s aren't as significant if you take that into consideration.

IMO, I think it's very correlated.. But I don't think they intentionally give preferential treatment, rather than just blindly prefer those types of students.

Edit: so interested in actually testing the hypothesis.. If only we had the data!!

Adding to this pile. Have we heard anything about post-hold JS1s yet?

There have been post-hold JS1s, if that's what you're asking.

Submitted app end of jan, went complete 2/13 so guessing that's why I haven't heard yet. Never really had hope for this one, was more of a "you never know."

So sorry for all the dings lately my Harvard friends! Perhaps this poor quality pic of my dog being a bro will bring some cheer to this thread (and, hey, wannabe got accepted to WUSTL right after re-posting a pic of him from the dog thread, so perhaps he is lucky!)

Went complete a few weeks ago. I'm waiting for JS to email me and tell me about how we're gonna get a little place and have a cow, and some pigs, and maybe a chicken, fields of alfalfa for the rabbits, and I'll get to tend the rabbits!
