That's interesting... when I filed my FAFSA, it told me that from the information I provided, I qualified as an independent status student, and that I would not need any information from my parents.capricasixx wrote:

That's FAFSA's rule only. Most schools require Need Access which, regardless of being an independent tax filer, uses your parents' income and assets.hammocklv06 wrote:That's interesting... when I filed my FAFSA, it told me that from the information I provided, I qualified as an independent status student, and that I would not need any information from my parents.capricasixx wrote:

Dean Schwartz sent me my need-based aid decision yesterday and mentioned contacting them about merit-aid to know where I stand. The need-based aid offered was no where near what I require to be persuaded to attend. At what point should I contact admissions (or do I contact Schwartz directly?) to let them know Cornell has already offered twice as much aid? Should I wait for them to release the merit aid decisions? Thanks in advance for any input!

I was also disappointed with my the need-based aid, but I'm holding out for merit. I think if need+merit is still disappointing, I would let them know about Cornell.skimmilk wrote:Dean Schwartz sent me my need-based aid decision yesterday and mentioned contacting them about merit-aid to know where I stand. Based on the amount I would say yes. They didn't specify but it was implied that this was all I would be getting and the rest would be loans. I got just a little over half tuition which given Cornell's COA still leaves me with considerable debt, but I am hoping I can use the offer to persuade UCLA and GULC to give me more aid.BertYoo wrote:was the cornell aid combined need and merit aid?skimmilk wrote:

That was what I was thinking. I am still waiting to hear back from other schools so I don't necessarily want to use my only Scholly offer up too early in the game. Has anyone received a merit-based offer yet? The email said they were in the process of awarding them, but they didn't mention when we should expect to hear from them.Lucyfur wrote:I was also disappointed with my the need-based aid, but I'm holding out for merit.
