Does it take awhile to receive the status checker email? Submitted 1/15, received the "application received and complete" email but nothing since.

I'd be willing to make it but I feel like someone who ED'd or is more set on Columbia should do it.DiniMae wrote:Soooooooo where's the c/o thread for CLS?

I applied 1/7 and I'm still waiting. Granted, it should come any moment now. My numbers aren't low or anything either.Trumpet101 wrote:Does it take awhile to receive the status checker email? Submitted 1/15, received the "application received and complete" email but nothing since.

Interesting, my status checker came before my complete email by 5 days. Submitted - 12/31, status checker email - 1/1, complete email - 1/6.Trumpet101 wrote:Does it take awhile to receive the status checker email? Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
There might be some merit to this theory. I had gotten the scanned acceptance letter last Thursday and got the official copy in the mail yesterday. My numbers definitely didn't make me a shoe-in at Columbia, and there wasn't any scholarship information or even mention of when those decisions would be made in what I received in the mail.Auxilio wrote:Some are suggesting they are waiting to give those people Hamilton/Butlers with the acceptance letter.jimmymac wrote:Doesnt it seem like the people that they are accepting so far a re non-shoe ins? The wave hasn't been your typical everyone over the 75ths gets in first... Not sure why, but its interesting

Some high numbers (inc. several 176s, 175, 179, several 174s + a different 179 on TLS) have been posted on LSN since Thursday and someone posted that they received a Hamilton in the mail yesterday so they are not necessarily waiting to accept/send out $$ to high numbers.

Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
yep, seems pretty definite now that acceptances go out by email, and then the named scholarships are in the mail. they might be holding off on making final decisions/sending out the emails for borderline named scholarship people for a bit (though this is probably just wishful thinking on my part), but some named scholarship people (presumably the auto-Hamiltons like the one on LSN and maybe auto-Butlers) have definitely gotten their emails already at this point and will find out about the $$ in the mail soon.hillz wrote:Some high numbers (inc. several 176s, 175, 179, several 174s + a different 179 on TLS) have been posted on LSN since Thursday and someone posted that they received a Hamilton in the mail yesterday so they are not necessarily waiting to accept/send out $$ to high numbers.
that's how it's looking to me anyway.

Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
If you read back through the 2017 thread Columbia did a lot of weird "holds" on seemingly auto admit candidates. My theory is that they don't have money enough to admit everyone they'd like and know that people aren't turning down HYS for anything less than a Butler so they delay some ppl's decisions in hopes they'll withdraw.xylocarp wrote:yep, seems pretty definite now that acceptances go out by email, and then the named scholarships are in the mail. they might be holding off on making final decisions/sending out the emails for borderline named scholarship people for a bit (though this is probably just wishful thinking on my part), but some named scholarship people (presumably the auto-Hamiltons like the one on LSN and maybe auto-Butlers) have definitely gotten their emails already at this point and will find out about the $$ in the mail soon.hillz wrote:Some high numbers (inc. several 176s, 175, 179, several 174s + a different 179 on TLS) have been posted on LSN since Thursday and someone posted that they received a Hamilton in the mail yesterday so they are not necessarily waiting to accept/send out $$ to high numbers.

My other theory is that they have sent out a couple days worth of acceptances only and those of us still waiting just need to chill out through Feb at least.

Re: Columbia c/o 2018 Applicants (2014-2015 cycle)
I think this is right. As appealing as the no-email-for-scholarship-candidates theory is to those of us who have the numbers but no offer, liawy's experience demonstrates otherwise.xylocarp wrote:yep, seems pretty definite now that acceptances go out by email, and then the named scholarships are in the mail. they might be holding off on making final decisions/sending out the emails for borderline named scholarship people for a bit (though this is probably just wishful thinking on my part), but some named scholarship people (presumably the auto-Hamiltons like the one on LSN and maybe auto-Butlers) have definitely gotten their emails already at this point and will find out about the $$ in the mail soon.hillz wrote:Some high numbers (inc. several 176s, 175, 179, several 174s + a different 179 on TLS) have been posted on LSN since Thursday and someone posted that they received a Hamilton in the mail yesterday so they are not necessarily waiting to accept/send out $$ to high numbers.

With only 2 acceptance days so far, I imagine we'll see lots more, including you three auto admits, in the next few weeks.

And I hope you're right. This cycle's been a bit more tortuous than I expected.

Ah ok. Statement retracted. Hadn't checked LSN this morning yet.hillz wrote:Some high numbers (inc. several 176s, 175, 179, several 174s + a different 179 on TLS) have been posted on LSN since Thursday and someone posted that they received a Hamilton in the mail yesterday so they are not necessarily waiting to accept/send out $$ to high numbers.

So if my mail acceptance does not include any $ (named or not), should I assume that I am not getting any $ from columbia? Or do non named scholarships typically come later in the spring?

Any other grants should come later (just gotta fill out NeedAccess/Columbia supplements/blah).morimoto1991 wrote:So if my mail acceptance does not include any $ (named or not), should I assume that I am not getting any $ from columbia? I'd think the trickle of acceptances will be even slower this week because of this blizzard
