Nope. Am from TX and went to college in TX (Rice) but have been OOS for the last few years.PN-G bamakid wrote:Are you in-state? That will play a role.arose928 wrote: Yeah looking at mylsn people in my range (167/3.6) got some significant offers.
Also, I applied on 12/9 and was accepted on 12/15 so I was possibly overinterpreting that as a sign that they wanna throw hella money at meBut it also might not mean anything.

I'd bet you'll get more money for applying from OOS. It's hard to find data on this because myLSN doesn't distinguish between in-state and OOS for public schools, but that seems to be the general trend I've noticed while looking over individual profiles.arose928 wrote:Nope. Be sure to take into account in-state tuition matching when you see OOS scholly reportingPN-G bamakid wrote: I'd bet you'll get more money for applying from OOS. Those who submitted Why Texas, did your status checker change at all after submitting or reflect that you had submitted it? Texas SC seems prettttty useless....

Just got accepted yesterday afternoon!! Does anybody know any details when I should be hearing back about scholarships and what I should be expecting? I am in state, went to UT undergrad, and both my LSAT and GPA are above the median.

In via status checker!
Submitted 12/3, complete 12/6, submitted a "Why Texas?" essay on 1/9. Really hoping they give me a decent scholarship.

Re: University of Texas C/O 18 Applicants
I'd say it does depend on a combination of two things: the school and your numbers. And it can change from year to year. I was a splitter, so there wasn't much incentive to offer me more money because they could have likely not had me attend and it not really affect things much. Because of this, there wasn't much incentive to match me.rkspurs21 wrote:ATTAX, feel free to PM me if you think it's more appropriate, but I think others could have similar questions: I read a lot on your experience requesting and receiving a scholarship at UT last year. I haven't even been accepted yet, but was wondering: what sort of schools does UT consider when "matching" scholarships? I have a couple of near full scholarships at schools ranked within 10 spots of UT, and although I'd like to stay in Austin, I don't plan on turning down a full ride for the opportunity at UT, if it's made available to me. What schools' offers did you use, and which would you recommend? Any idea on whether a full ride at GW or WUSTL, or at a regional school like U of H or SMU, would be preferred? Thanks for any insight!Attax wrote:ASW last year was in late March. IDK what the stipend was, however.

I think that turning down a full ride depends on where it is and your goals. I turned down quite a few to attend UT, and am glad that I did so because, although I did well my first semester, if I had done how I did at some of the full ride schools I would be nixed from biglaw which is my goal. But in general, they didn't seem to care much about what are generally considered "peer" schools. This includes UH and SMU. UT knows they're good schools, but know they aren't nearly as good as UT so there isn't much incentive to match them. WUSTL, UMN, USC, etc. also seemed to not pull much weight from people I've talked to, it really took Cornell+ or an original lowball offer for it to have much influence, along with median+ for both numbers. YMMV

Re: University of Texas C/O 18 Applicants
To offer another perspective, I used offers from WUSTL and MN and got a good sized bump with the matching program. Seems like 3k/year is a normal response from UT when people successfully use their matching program. I got an additional 5k/yr.
The caveat here is that I double deposited (and I had decent contact with admissions, and wrote what I would assume was a convincing explanation to go with my matching request, but who knows if that had any influence). With UT raising the LSAT median (went from 166 to 167, and I had a 167) and my GPA being around median, coupled with the fact that I submitted my matching request after the deposit deadline, that may have been a bigger factor than the actual schools I used. But I just wanted to let people know that it was possible to use larger offers from lower ranked schools to get UT to bump you up.

Thanks very much for this! As it stands, I'm well above their 75th for GPA, and a point off their median LSAT. I'm retaking in Feb, so hopefully a couple of points bump will get me in the sweet spot you mention, where I'd help both their medians. Glad to hear your positive experience so far, I'm in Austin and would be happy to stay. Appreciate you taking the time.

Thanks for the additional input! I plan on putting a lot of thought into any request for matching, contingent on the whole acceptance step. Good to hear success stories. PS, HOLY SHIT, Norma Jean album cover pic. I feel 16 again.cannibal ox wrote:To offer another perspective, I used offers from WUSTL and MN and got a good sized bump with the matching program. To follow up on this, just got scholarship offer! $7k/year plus non-resident tuition exemption, for total value of $68k.arose928 wrote:Nope. Also, I applied on 12/9 and was accepted on 12/15 so I was possibly overinterpreting that as a sign that they wanna throw hella money at meBut it also might not mean anything.

I got $7,000 a year and am already in-state, so I guess we're in the same boat.arose928 wrote:To follow up on this, just got scholarship offer! $7k/year plus non-resident tuition exemption, for total value of $68k.arose928 wrote:Nope. I interviewed for townes-rice and didn't get one of these first four offers - am I still eligible for other merit based aid? Does anyone know when I would be notified of other aid offers? Is it not until after the other four Townes-Rice awards go out?

I also interviewed and didn't received one of the first four, but I received another merit-based offer earlier in the cycle. I was admitted on 11/3 and received the scholarship email on 12/9. Hope that helps!hannahp38 wrote:I interviewed for townes-rice and didn't get one of these first four offers - am I still eligible for other merit based aid? Just got my acceptance packet! Does anyone know if they offer travel subsidies for those traveling from out of state to visit? I'd love to go for ASW!
