Not sure if this was the same thing since the email said they were going through early decision apps and wondering if we were interested in interviewing. The site made it seem like you had to have something new to bring to the table before they considered you for an interview.

Anyway, I got an email from an alumni asking if I would be able to come to Austin for an interview. Ahhhhh I hope they can schedule it after my patent bar.
nolabreeze, did you respond and say that you were interested in doing an interview?
I responded that 1. yes i want to interview 2. I can come to austin. Haven't heard back yet. I actually hope it's the presentation/writing sample. I've been through dozens of regular interviews and 1 presentation style interview. I enjoyed the presentation one more, gives you time to really sell yourself and let your personality come through.

I just called them and I am glad I did. If you have been invited to an alumni interview, the writing sample and presentation is not applicable. You merely show up and the interviewer will ask a series of questions, just like in a standard law school applicant interview.

I suspect that if one hasn't been accepted or invited to interview yet, they are probably not going to get accepted (barring WL - Accept). Does this sound about right?

No not really... I went complete 2 days ago and the app deadline isn't for a month. I'm sure they're going to be accepting people who aren't interviewing.

I got an email from an alumni 2 days ago asking if I could come to Austin, I emailed her back that day that I could. She just emailed me today asking if Feb 20 would work.

I'm pretty sure this is unprecedented in recent years. The last two years' threads have no mention of people being asked to interview at all.

This is really stupid question, but could someone explain to me what yield protect means?

yield protect means not letting in people with auto-admit numbers due to the fear they wont marticulate. Yield is the percentage of admits that end up attending and is part of the USNEWS ranking.

Just got in via phone!!! Was expecting an auto-reject. 161/164 with 3.61. So excited right now, I was about to call back to make sure I didn't dream that phone call!

Do you have any mitigating factors (awesome work experience, an advanced degree, etc) that explain your acceptance? I only ask because those numbers seem a touch low for UT (not a judgement of your intellect, obv), unless I'm misreading the stats for accepted students. Congrats!
