Re: UW-Madison 2011
Hey guys, I need your advice! I'm going to visit Madison next weekend to find an apartment - What proof of salary did you guys use? Is your letter of acceptance enough? I'm asking because I don't have my financial information yet, so I can't provide proof of my loan amounts. Thanks for your help!

They dont care. They check your credit score and if you're a student they usually trust you. This isn't SF or NY...everyone here is a student.spookyt27 wrote:Hey guys, I need your advice! It should be about a 15 minute bus ride, which does not bother me at all. I guess I don't really see why everyone wants to live right downtown. I toured a place in the Willy St. neighborhood that I had gotten a couple of recommendations on and it was pure crap for $775/mo. Is there some magical benefit to living downtown that I'm missing?
Or I'll drink at home alone.
1) Walking home at night from bars blows. Paying for taxis costs money. Cold weather is cold.
2) The buses don't run often/at all on the weekends depending on where you're living. Missing a bus sucks.
3) Quick and easy access to good dining options
4) Forgot something at school? Get on a bus to go back and get it.
5) Did it just snow a crap ton? Expect delays in the buses. Have a final that morning? Wake up 2 hours earlier to make sure you can get to school on time. If you can walk, you're timing is constant.
6) Want an impromptu coffee meeting to study or meet up with that cute someone? Too bad, you have to plan it in advance because the bus isn't coming for an hour.
7) You run in to awesome people all the time walking to/from home/lunch/cafe/studying/school. If you take the bus, you run in to practically no one.
Walking home at night from bars blows. (I think I mentioned this one)
This is basically all of the reasons I elected to get an apartment downtown. I dont think I talked to any 2Ls at ASW that dont live in the downtown area, some did their 1L year and then moved downtown. For some people who have not visited its hard to understand till you actually are around the area, I was not set on downtown either prior to visiting but literally everything you will want is RIGHT there, great food great bars great entertainment and school is like 6-8blocks away to top it off.

Can someone just reiterate when the deadline for accepted students is to confirm their attendance? Isn't it around now?

I think it's rolling at this point. I know it was May 1st for some. Mine was May 13th. So I assume it's based on when you were accepted.estrangedstudent wrote:Can someone just reiterate when the deadline for accepted students is to confirm their attendance? Isn't it around now?

How are they informing WL candidates of their admission? Email, mail, phone?

Mine was just an e-mail that basically said "congratulations you've been admitted to UW:Madison!"
Didn't even mention the wait-list or anything.

Congrats! Although your GPA crushes mine, and I'm not a WI resident, it's heartening to see someone with a similar LSAT get in off the waitlist.

kristyk: I have no idea what got me in. I'm in state graduating from another UW school.
For everyone else waitlisted: I will not be attending UW Madison I have chosen to go to Marquette so my spot will open up! Good Luck all.

Congrats! Marquette is a good school -- their National Sports Law Institute is really interesting.Shanker626 wrote:kristyk: I have no idea what got me in. I'm in state graduating from another UW school.

Hopefully they decide to go with an out-of-stater on their next pick

Oh, also, meant to ask, once you got off the WL, how long were you given to commit to or withdraw from UW Madison?kristyk wrote:Congrats! Re: UW-Madison 2011
I was told that 2nd LOCI or more interest e-mails would not be necessary. I believe they are only interested in GPA or LSAT score increases. I did send an updated transcript.

I've heard the same, but now I'm considering a second LOCI telling them I'm willing to go part-time.estrangedstudent wrote:I was told that 2nd LOCI or more interest e-mails would not be necessary. I believe they are only interested in GPA or LSAT score increases. I did send an updated transcript.

Re: UW-Madison 2011
Actually depends where you live. My current apartment had no issues with my status, but my apartment for next year forced me to find a cosigner despite the financial aid because I had not had 3 years of prior credit history (or reference a landlord I sued, lulz).Regionality wrote:They dont care. Re: UW-Madison 2011
Just wondering when you sent your app in and when you were waitlisted. I sent my app in on Jan 11th and was WL on April 4th. I see a few of you here with similar #s getting off the WL so I was just wondering if they're doing it on a rolling basis or what. I'm 160/3.78 WI resident and sent a really good LOCI so I'm becoming nervous/impatient. hahakristyk wrote:Yes, said I'd be hearing more in the next few days.EstboundNDwn wrote:Congrats! I am thinking about living in an efficiency because it is $400 a month cheaper. Is that a bad idea? If anyone had ever lived in one or known someone who has please give me some insight.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
