Got my snail mail acceptance letter today, and it mentioned that I'm on a "scholarship waitlist" and will be notified later. I was really planning/hoping for money from Pitt, so I'm crossing my fingers.

Also, for those waiting, I applied 11/14, on 1/18 my status checker said "admitted" and then on 1/21 I got a letter in the mail. Never got an e-mail.

No one is even jealous of you. You come in here and flaunt your scholarship but are rude to people who ask you questions about it (Barbie for example who is as nice as they come). Then you do everything in your power almost to bash the University while saying "oh but I really am considering it." And it is more than one or two people who realize your douchebaggery.

+1

It's not just Pitt, it's other schools as well.

That's nonsense. I didn't flaunt the scholarship; I mentioned it.

People asked about it and I explained it many times. If people don't understand after my explaining it, then I don't know what to tell you.

I bash the university? Never. The only thing I asked is if Pitt students are... smart.

Like I said, jealousy is a bitch.

it means that they havent decided if or how much they are going to offer you scholarship wise. You may have to do some extra work ( write an essay or something), or if you did, they have yet to read and review it.

From my discussion with the admissions/Aid office, students with the requirements for the dean's scholarship (161 and 3.4) receive the scholarship (minimum $10,000/year), and students with "good numbers" not quite at the requirement are placed on a "waitlist" and can receive money as it becomes available from other students withdrawing.

That sounds accurate- I'm a few points above the lsat requirement, but one point below the gpa requirment for the dean's scholarship. Currently wishing I could go back in time and tell my college-freshman self to get my shit together, as it might make a $30,000 difference. jesus.

Probably as smart as most other T2 law students. Why ask questions like these?

Yeah, this seems to be a really dumb question. If they are smart, then you can learn more from your peers. If they aren't smart, then you'd have a better chance of being ranked higher.

But it was obviously a smart ass question any way you look at it.

I don't think anything is or should be off limits when making a choice that will affect the rest of my life.

Schools have different atmospheres... I really don't see the question as that rude.

Congrats! I'm really hoping for a similar offer... Pitt's at the top of my list.

I saw it as more asinine than rude, but OK.

If you're really concerned, your best bet is to come visit for yourself. I can tell you loads about the city of Pittsburgh and undergraduate life, but the law school is a much smaller microcosm of the university as a whole. Like most law schools, it will tend to attract a narrower range of backgrounds and interests than their parent universities.

How smart is the median Pitt Law student? How smart is the typical person with a 160 LSAT and 3.37 GPA? The numbers aren't direct measures of intelligence, so you will probably find smart people and not-so-smart people as your classmates.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
