I hope you're okay! Don't worry about me, I'll be at Boalt next year

Sorry if I don't have the TLS terminology down yet, this is my first post. Straight up rejected today 173 3.9, in my mind pretty good softs especially applying as a UG. I applied in mid- December and had nothing in my application about Berkeley. Does Berkeley really consider such superficial things that important?

If you didn't write a 4-page PS especially for Berkeley, that would be a turn-off.

Eh most people who got FR2 to begin with applied rather late. If you apply to Berkeley after around mid-Dec, it seems that the 'admit' option is off the table for Dean Tom - either it's FR or rejection. In order to argue for YP, you have to show that someone with lower numbers had a better shot, and that's certainly not the case.

You can believe that if you want, but the stats on LSN don't really back that up, as the area that is most green and least yellow/red is in the 175+, 3.8+ region.

I'm so sorry Los Blancos! Good luck with the rest of your cycle.
True, and good point, but it is interesting that no one with a march decision was accepted with over a 171 (via LSN) so far. Maybe FR is totally based on softs?
Just from the statistics on LSN, applicants with less than a 170 completely outperformed higher scorers in march. I know this doesnt prove anything, but its still interesting and unexpected.
I was specifically addressing blue's conjecture that perhaps Dean Tom was YPing before. I think MM's argument addresses the FR anomaly.
This is my last post in this thread, I'm not masochistic enough to keep opening it up.
