LSN suggests it would be utterly unprecedented for Columbia to reject outright an applicant in your number range (assuming no cataclysmic blemishes). I think the same even holds true for those with numbers a fair bit below yours actually.

edit: i honestly don't see hold as bad thing.... i mean the waiting part sucks mad. but all in all its second to an acceptance. when the dinghammers start dropping left and right, all the holds will be smiling in their seats.

I agree, and I think whoever reported that holds would find out in April was being given a conservative answer by a staffer. I think there will be a lot of movement once the pool is complete after 2/15.

I think I'm mostly just pessimistic because I haven't been held or waitlisted, but I don't think I'd be accepted over other people around here so if something is coming soon it's probably the other category. On the other hand, I have to keep reminding myself that no one here (including myself) really knows anything about this (no offense) and that admissions is somewhat inherently unpredictable for mid-rangers like myself...so anything could happen.

As for the avatar, it's the cat's eye nebula...I just really like how it looks.

Edit: admissions is somewhat inherently unpredictable for ANY candidate, I guess, as long as there's people sitting somewhere making the decisions.

So it's kind of starting to look like most of the early applicants probably would have heard by now if they're in, like we were all originally guessing. There might be a few stragglers in the 1/31 group, but the huge wave is probably over. If they want you but aren't sure for whatever reason, you get held. If you've been WLed you should know by now. If it's still silent...cross your fingers you were in that later batch because otherwise the outlook is grim. Hooray speculation!

When did most of you guys who get held go complete? I wasn't complete until December, but applied at some point in November (don't remember when). Just trying to figure things out.

They probably will for people who applied later. But they probably know what they're doing with the earlier apps and if not they got held. This is personal wishful thinking though too. Honestly at this point I kind of just want to admit defeat. That way I'll know my ding is coming and if I get something else it'll be a little happy gift.
