I'm doing all I can to suppress the frustrated, sarcastic rant bouncing around my head right now ... at least until the WL is official. (After that, no promises.)

Re: Vanderbilt 2013
I just spent 1 hr looking at 3 yrs of LSN and I dont think the 1/7 was a waitlist batch. I couldnt find a wave of waitlist that corresponded with this dates, yet again, this is a different year so it could be different. Most waitlisted people got it AFTER late Jan. A few people who also got waitlisted before that applied really early and got it in Early to Mid Dec.
Yet to make this more fun, If you think you have the highest stats of the 1/7 group, post it here. I think the winner thus far is a 166 LSAT 3.96 GPA
Lets hear what you got!

you shouldn't use dates from previous cycles to determine what the decisions for the current batch are. by using the numbers of those getting decisions mailed out on 1/7, it's evident that we're waitlisted.cr073137 wrote:I just spent 1 hr looking at 3 yrs of LSN and I dont think the 1/7 was a waitlist batch. 1/5: both stats at or above median
1/6: both stats below median
1/7: one stat above median, one stat below median
if 166 3.96 is the highest for the 1/7 batch, then that just gives more evidence that this batch was waitlisted.

My stats apply to the 1/7 batch, and I have been complete since the beginning of November, yet my status hasn't changed. I wish they'd give me a decision one way or the other.

Do you think it looks bad to not submit the Merit Awards essays when I marked on the application that I would submit them?

So the postmark deadline for scholarships on Monday is only the law scholars merit awards, right? There isn't some separate application required for other merit offers, is there?

No, you're automatically considered for the regular merit awards.thickfreakness wrote:So the postmark deadline for scholarships on Monday is only the law scholars merit awards, right? There isn't some separate application required for other merit offers, is there?

Ok, good. I was a little worried after reading about the e-mail. I don't think I'd have a shot at a Law Scholars award (usually these are reserved for people with ridiculously high numbers), so I didn't want to waste anyone's time by filling out the application.

Email today saying they were extending it to a soft postmark deadline of Monday, with a 5 day grace period to receive it.LS18 wrote:^Their form says it must be received by January 10th (Sunday). Am I misreading something?

Hmmm...I didn't receive that email. Did you email them about it or was it a mass email? What time did you receive it? Do you mind copying/pasting it?

Part of interest is
3) Law Scholar Merit Awards
We will make several full-tuition plus annual stipend awards valued at more than $150,000.00 over three years of study at Vanderbilt. Recipients are chosen on the basis of information contained in the application for admission and the Law Scholars Merit Award application, due January 10 (with the 10th falling on Sunday, we are treating Monday, January the 11th as a soft postmark deadline with a grace period to the 15th).

The 4.0 GPA you have listed in your profile is pretty "ridiculously high." What have you heard that makes you think you don't have a shot? I ask because I'm pondering whether or not its worth filling it out myself...thickfreakness wrote:Kiersten1985 wrote:No, you're automatically considered for the regular merit awards.thickfreakness wrote:So the postmark deadline for scholarships on Monday is only the law scholars merit awards, right? Do you have some sort of proof for this (the bolded)? Not attacking you or anythingthickfreakness wrote: Ok, good. I was a little worried after reading about the e-mail. LSN seems to show only two $145k-ish scholarships for last year's cycle, to a 180/3.88 and a 171/3.85... the 171 isn't ridiculously high, but I didn't even break 170 so...
But your 171/4.0 seems like it would definitely have a shot!

CyLaw: Thanks a ton! Saved me a trip to the post office in the snow today.
Not sure why I didn't receive the email from Vandy...maybe I'll call their admissions office.
I have the same dilemma as many of you. Not sure I qualify for these full tuition scholarships, but I marked on my app that I would submit the essays. Don't want it to look like I'm lazy if I don't submit...but what I've written for them strikes me as sooo underqualified.

After looking at LSN, I've pretty much decided not to submit even though I marked that on my app too. Definitely not worth it to spend the money overnighting it since it's supposed to be received by Jan 10.LS18 wrote:CyLaw: Thanks a ton! So really, it just needs to be postmarked by Monday.

Yes. The 1/5 people reported getting an additional email that said the email was only sent to those who were already accepted.LS18 wrote:Did everyone that receive the email this morning already be accepted? Just wondering why some of us did/did not receive it.
