haha, I'm still semi-contemplating applying to Yale, even though I'm pretty sure it'd be a lost cause with my stats (~3.7 / 175). also, applying this late looks bad I guess... maybe I'll try writing the 250 and if it turns out well, I'll apply

If you're not really sure about the whole idea, maybe you shouldn't waste the time on the 250, which can take a while. As noted earlier, you can't judge your chances just by stats; they've taken people with your numbers in the past if their softs are good.maudlinstreet wrote:haha, I'm still semi-contemplating applying to Yale, even though I'm pretty sure it'd be a lost cause with my stats (~3.7 / 175). also, applying this late looks bad I guess... maybe I'll try writing the 250 and if it turns out well, I'll apply

eh, writing the 250 would probably actually be fun, and I'd consider it a good exercise for my writing (which has gotten slightly rusty due to disuse). my softs are OK but nothing super awesome, so it seems like it'd be pretty difficult to overcome the sub sub sub 25th gpa.managamy wrote:If you're not really sure about the whole idea, maybe you shouldn't waste the time on the 250, which can take a while. Props to you for the attitude expressed in the bolded statement. If you have the money (and any desire to attend Yale) you should do it. I found writing the 250 essay to be one of the only parts of the law school application process that was actually enjoyable. It forces you to think creatively and concisely and I'm happy that at least a couple of people are going to read mine.maudlinstreet wrote:eh, writing the 250 would probably actually be fun, and I'd consider it a good exercise for my writing (which has gotten slightly rusty due to disuse). my softs are OK but nothing super awesome, so it seems like it'd be pretty difficult to overcome the sub sub sub 25th gpa.managamy wrote:If you're not really sure about the whole idea, maybe you shouldn't waste the time on the 250, which can take a while. Also a 3.7/175 is a great set of numbers and I suspect plenty of folk get into Yale with those sorts of quantitative factors. Yale is also insistent that applying late doesn't impact one's ability to be accepted into the program. Who knows how true that statement is, but I'd put more trust in the adcom than I would in anonymous folk on an internet forum.
[I'm not a member of an admissions committee. Heck, I'm not even in law school yet. Everything I say should be taken with a huge grain of salt]

Re: Yale 2010
Dinged by snail mail (west coast). Lame short letter.
Not too disappointed, as I was expecting this and didn't care about YLS. What can I say... there wasn't any chemistry between us. I bleed red anyway
Hopefully this means more hope for the rest of you all!

Re: Yale 2010
my friend is a URM (black) 3.7ish/175 who applied a couple months ago. he told me he recently received some snail mail saying something along the lines of "there's nothing wrong with your file and we're hoping to get a decision to you shortly." i haven't followed this thread, so i was curious if that's standard or if it means anything one way or the other about his application.

Is that good? Because it was adapted into a kind of disappointing West End show. I would prioritize The Princess Bride.Kretzy wrote:

The movie is amazing. Far better than "Too Wong Foo..." I less-than-three Yale as well, though.Lysis wrote:Is that good? Because it was adapted into a kind of disappointing West End show. I would prioritize The Princess Bride.Kretzy wrote:

Managamy, my dear, now that you've hit the holy trinity of law schools... i think you can take senior year a bit easier and start watching movies like The Princess Bride. It's a must!managamy wrote:Full disclosure: I have no idea what The Princess Bride is.owhlcn wrote:just for the record, i credit the princess bride for everything.VoidSix wrote:

calling HYS the holy trinity is pretty funny because I suspect that a sizable number of people going there are non-believers. if your logic skills are that good...

This move is also amazing. Guy Pearce is hilarious and I love how the guy that plays Agent Smith in The Matrix is in it. Good call.Kretzy wrote:
