As a fellow gator, I completely agree. For example, in my small group the students continued to reiterate how great our athletic program is, how many championships we've got, etc. and while I'm sure that may be appealing to a sports fan or someone who never experienced college football tailgating and rooting on a successful team, I feel like I've got that all out of my system. I'm looking forward to moving to a bigger city that has more to offer than just the ultimate college-town vibe. All in all though, UF is great and coming here for undergrad was one of the best decisions I ever made. I'm sure most would be happy attending law school in Gville, especially if you didn't go to UG here.green918 wrote:I did. I was surprised by how many people brought their parents. This was my first ASD though, I wonder if that's typical everywhere...
The classrooms and law library were very nice and I was happy to see that they gave us an opportunity to mingle with the faculty. I also thought it was good that they broke us up into smaller groups with current students so we could ask specific questions. The students in my group were very helpful.
It was also my first ASD, so I'm guessing it was pretty standard as far as the information about the school, financial aid, etc. Personally, I already live in Gainesville and am kind of anxious to leave. Gainesville's a good college town but I'm leaning toward trying out somewhere new. All in all, I didn't come away with any better or worse impression of the school than I already had. Nice campus, welcoming students and faculty, great alumni network in Florida...It didn't really sway me though.

Re: University of Florida
ASD yesterday was an enjoyable experience. I was in group C. I have nothing to compare this to, as it was my first ASD.
I am also attending the Stetson Scholar Retreat next weekend.
I have some personal debt that makes me wonder if it would even be possible to attend any school that does not offer a full ride. If the student budget is $47K at UF, and I take out $47K in loans, how do I cover the personal debt? UF's budget also does not allow for a car...and I am not going to sell my 2 year-old car at a loss and then be stuck with no way to come back to Tampa on holidays, etc.
Kill it at Stetson 1L and see what my options are at that point may be the only viable option...

it's called the SLB not SLC, and I thought it was pretty cool, they need to fix their theater. If I was to work in the SE, which I won't, and you were excluding T14, I'd say go to Vanderbilt, Emory, Tulane, UMiami or bust (almost) in that order.

did you apply to UF law? if so why? If not, shut the hell up and go awaymisbuble wrote:it's called the SLB not SLC, and I thought it was pretty cool, they need to fix their theater. For the record, UF law is terrible, FSU law is terrible. Gainesville is a bad school in a worse location.

Re: University of Florida
They realize this, but they take on more students than they can adequately employ. If you want to get down to semantics that's another issue. Their faculty is actually worse than FSU, both faculty will leave because state funds are going into stupid things like 20 mil spent on textbooks that most schools don't need. All fl public schools are dependent on the misappropriated funds, and UF's stats are fake.

Re: University of Florida
Exactly how do you justify this? There are a lot of beefs at UF that are legitimate, but the strength of their faculty isn't one of them. For similarly situated schools, they have a tremendous faculty. Plus, for those looking to work in Florida, I can't see a better school to attend. If you're SURE you want to stay in Florida, UF > every school you listed, including Vandy.misbuble wrote:They realize this, but they take on more students than they can adequately employ. UF is reducing class size this year from 400 to 300, per Dean Jerry at ASD yesterday, so that should go a long way toward handling that issue.misbuble wrote:They realize this, but they take on more students than they can adequately employ. You have terrible reading comprehension. I was talking about Vandy, Emory, Tulane and Umiami. UF > Miami every day of the week and twice on Sunday for SE placement. The UVA comment is in relation to the post I quoted. Better start learning to read better than that before law school, dooder.misbuble wrote:no, i recently talked with many teachers in fl about the funds going into every which way except where it's needed. I ask for evidence that UF's faculty is terrible and you quote your "many" discussions with "teachers."

Really? I know dozens of UF faculty and talk to several on a regular basis. I'm sure that they would agree that their faculty is strong. But let's take an objective view:
http://www.leiterrankings.com/faculty/2 ... tion.shtml
UF was runner up for Top 40, a bit above it's ranking -- indicating the faculty is stronger than the USNWR ranking suggests.
