Can I get everyone's hot/well-thought-out take on LOCIs? I'm not keen on pestering these poor people, but if the consensus is that they do more good than harm...dhbiv wrote:illini2016 wrote:I've been UR since the beginning of November. Same. UR since end of October. At/above both 75ths. I plan on sending my LOCI by the end of this week or on Monday; I have an additional LOR that I plan to add to my app as soon as the LSAC processes it.

Re: Stanford C/O 2020 Applicants (2016-2017 Cycle)
My take is that you emphasize personal connection to the school, through current students, alumni, professors, admissions, and visits to campus. Use these interactions as a vehicle for communicating your continued interest in attending and your commitment to matriculate should they offer admission. I think listing a bunch of courses, seminars, employment statistics, or professors you like is far too easy. A monkey could do that. So, the more personal you get, the better.illini2016 wrote:Can I get everyone's hot/well-thought-out take on LOCIs? It really seems to be a judgment call on your end. I have heard from the pre-law advisers at my UG say that if you're on the fence in terms of stats, it may be better to not send in a LOCI until you are waitlisted, because you're clearly a qualified applicant and whatever you sent in is enough for them to reach a clear decision one way or the other. However, if you are below their medians and haven't heard anything for like 2+ months, it probably wouldn't hurt you to throw in the kitchen sink and sincerely explain why S is your (I presume) top choice.illini2016 wrote:Can I get everyone's hot/well-thought-out take on LOCIs? tl;dr It's your call on what to do, but personally, if you applied months ago and haven't heard a peep yet, I don't think it counts as "pestering" to send them one email with a LOCI attached.

In other, more distressing news, someone on LSN posted a rejection today.

Do people usually go Incomplete -> Complete -> Under Review? I went straight from Incomplete to UR.

IIRC, your application will go complete and "be submitted for review" all at once.

Does the status checker update once you have gone complete and under review [UR1] besides with DLS? In other words, is there a UR2 that is conveyed through the status checker?

Re: Stanford C/O 2020 Applicants (2016-2017 Cycle)
There is no UR2. There's a "what to expect when you're expecting" thread that can answer this question more thoroughly and for other schools.batlaw wrote:Does the status checker update once you have gone complete and under review [UR1] besides with DLS? I just want to be clear if this is still the what to expect when expecting for S.Kimikho wrote: Stanford:
Incomplete
Submitted for Review
Shouldn’t take more than a few days
No date changes
Acceptances: Phone
Area Code: 650
Last year, if your status changed to "decision letter sent" and you hadn't received a phone call or email, you had been waitlisted/dinged.
People keep saying under review but do they really mean "submitted for review" or did S add an additional step?

Okay good. Thanks. I was worried I was left in the bottom of a drawer in PA somewhere.Monday wrote:People are using the two interchangeably.Rigo wrote:I just want to be clear if this is still the what to expect when expecting for S.Kimikho wrote: Stanford:

Cool, thanks! The current "what to expect" thread didn't mention the UR1 (or submitted for review 1 for @Rigo!) and I've seen that some status checkers/ admissions processes have changed over the years, so I wasn't sure. I just wanted to clarify so that I have more reason to convince myself that I should just stop checking the Stanford status checker!Whittie wrote:There is no UR2. On a side note, I listened to a podcast from SLS this morning that got me really wishing it weren't such a long shot. Then I realized that the podcast was from 2007 and the professors on it were no longer at Stanford. I felt a little bit better, except that, you know, they are at Harvard now.
