(One of) The problem(s) with this sort of analysis is that you can't compare percentages when you have such drastically different sample sizes.Lightworks wrote:
51.6% of black law students graduate in the bottom-10th of their classes (as opposed to 5.6% of white students).
71.4% in the bottom 20th (12.8% of white students).
Only 8% of black law students graduate at or above median in their class (67.2% of white students do).
I
This means that it would be statistically impossible for any less than 28.6% of the white students to finish above the median, while theoretically the entire black student population could finish below the median.
Similarly, if only black students comprised the bottom 10%, it would be 50% of the black students while an all white bottom 10% would only be 14% of the white students.
I would wager (I could actually look it up, but again, I'm lazy) that my hypothetical assumes a more diverse student body than actually exists. Which means that the numbers above would be even more skewed than they are. So these comparisons are

Ok. So I was curious. In 2013, 3,654 of 39,675 total matriculants were AA. That's 9.2%.tk17 wrote: I would wager (I could actually look it up, but again, I'm lazy) that my hypothetical assumes a more diverse student body than actually exists. So really. Comparing percentages of AA students that finish above a certain line to percentages of non-urm students is statistically useless.

Have any of the ED applicants who were rolled over to RD heard back yet?
Op: Can we get a new poll about next date of admissions wave?

Per the 2017 thread, there was a Jan 15 wave last year (Wednesday) so I think Wednesday the 14th, Thursday the 15th, and Friday the 16th should all be options, along with a few more pessimistic options i.e. Wednesday the 21st, Friday the 23rd, and the ever-popular Literally Never.

I thought it'd be today, based on the fact that the first waves after the new year last year (1/15 and 1/22) were one week apart.OhBoyOhBortles wrote:Per the 2017 thread, there was a Jan 15 wave last year (Wednesday) so I think Wednesday the 14th, Thursday the 15th, and Friday the 16th should all be options, along with a few more pessimistic options i.e. Wednesday the 21st, Friday the 23rd, and the ever-popular Literally Never.

Has anyone had any status updates since first going complete/will we get a date update before decisions are released?

Some people have (including me). But not sure what it means. Complete date updated in December, but I wasn't a part of the last round of decisions.Phattypattyfrost wrote:Has anyone had any status updates since first going complete/will we get a date update before decisions are released?
