Re: Emory Class of 2017 (2013-2014 Cycle)
I guess I'm just a little worried re: the upward trend.
+41 from '11 to '12
+26 from '12 to '13
Acc to LSN, 253 matriculated last year. So if you take into account the 30-40 transfers, the c/o '16 will have 280-290 students. I was hoping our class would be closer to 250/275 than 300, but eh.

Re: Emory Class of 2017 (2013-2014 Cycle)
Hello – this is Ethan Rosenzweig, the dean of Admission and Financial Aid. Thanks for indulging my postings here periodically. I wanted to provide a quick update on where we are in the process.
Decision Notifications: Over the next few days, I will be sending out additional decisions and waitlist notifications.
Wait list notification is always tough because we know you have been waiting patiently, and now, we are asking for your continued patience. Let me be clear. We will be admitting students from the waitlist. The challenge we face is that we do not want to have a class too large (reviewing some of your posts, many of you value smaller class sizes) and we want to maximize the scholarship opportunities for those we admit. With this year's unique admission cycle, the waitlist is the best opportunity for us to manage our class size, provide you appropriate aid, and enroll a class of students excited about the Emory Law community.
Visits: A few years ago, when we notified wait list applicants of their acceptance, many students mentioned that it was difficult to make a decision when they were admitted since they hadn't visited the school. We encourage folks to visit on their own if they are interested in attending, but I understand time and costs preclude this for many. Thus, this year, we will invite small groups of waitlist applicants to various events so that we can examine whether we should host a more formal event in the future. Attending an event or visiting is not a pre-requisite to admission. It is simply to allow applicants a chance to know the school better, and then for us to determine the efficacy of continuing such events in future years.
I hope this explanation assists. I encourage folks to examine our programs and community so that when I have the chance to call you to offer admission, there is the same excitement to join us as we have to offer you a seat.
Please email us if we can provide further assistance. We love to hear from you. jdadmission(at)emory.edu.

Does anybody know if Emory increases scholarships for admits after they have money left over from students who withdrew or didn't pay deposits?

Have wait list/rejection notifications been dispersed throughout the cycle, or are they generally sent out in a large batch at one time?EmoryAdmissionDean wrote:Hello – this is Ethan Rosenzweig, the dean of Admission and Financial Aid. I know some schools are notorious for holding their wait list candidates through the entire admissions cycle, only to dump the WL/ding on them at the very end. One of my biggest fears...

I really want to go to Emory, but even with $19000/year, the tuition and COL are still pretty high. The consensus is that Emory doesn't negotiate, right? Also, what seems to be the lsat/gpa equivalent for scholarship money? I saw some people with lower numbers than me get more money, so I'm just curious.

Dean Rosenzweig, thanks for the update and specifically bringing up some of our concerns on the upcoming class size.

Did anyone try to find a law school's mission statement when you were applying? I couldn't find a mission statement for the majority of schools I applied to, but I really liked Emory's: http://www.law.emory.edu/about-emory-la ... ssion.html
I graduated from a small liberal arts undergrad going through institutional instability, so we obsessed about mission statements. We even spent two entire class periods in the mandatory freshman course analyzing the one-sentence statement.

Hey, did anybody get invited to the Admitted Students Day in New York and is anyone planning on going? It looks really interesting, but I don't know if I'll be able to pull it off to drive down from Montreal in such short notice. It would be really nice to go to, though, as flying will certainly make attendance at ASD way too expensive even with the hotel room provided

Re: Emory Class of 2017 (2013-2014 Cycle)
Waitlists all around.
Happy to still have a chance given my stats, but that financial aid email definitely needs to be reworded because it was a little too positive. I feel like a kid and someone just popped my balloon. Boo.
Also anyone else notice the email said we hope to admit numerous waitlisters and the waitlist site said several haha agh that wording...

Also got the WL email. Seems as though my previously mentioned wait list dump fears have come true.
