Fuck Hastings, I guess they don't want non-trads or anyone who's ever had a job. $0 with expected $25k/yr contribution, knowing full well I won't have an income this year or for the next three.

Same as everyone else: $13.5K grant, $2K Perkins loan. I definitely don't want to take out $60K/year in more student loan debt.

maybe they're sending the better offers later? haha still haven't gotten mine yet. I'm pretty much decided on Davis already anyway. Qualified for 30K in need based grants there already, and doesn't look like Hastings is giving anything close to that judging from the ones that have got them already

Pretty sure Davis does purely need based thing too and I think it makes both these NorCal schools impossible for me to attend.mcs268 wrote:maybe they're sending the better offers later? haha still haven't gotten mine yet. Davis offers need and merit separately, although I have seen it's quite rare to be offered anything through merit. Definitely not purely need at all though.teiswei wrote:Pretty sure Davis does purely need based thing too and I think it makes both these NorCal schools impossible for me to attend.mcs268 wrote:maybe they're sending the better offers later? haha still haven't gotten mine yet. I still have not gotten the aid award email yet. Not in my spam folder. Those of you who got the email, is there a link I can go to and just login with my webadvisor id?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Anyone know the scenario regarding retention of Hastings Grants?

I believe you reapply for them each year. I don't really think there are any stips to maintaining them GPA-wise. However, if your financial situation changed (for better or worse) it could result in more or less money for your second and third years. I also think Hastings does offer increased scholarships to top performers in each class as well.well.let's.see wrote:Anyone know the scenario regarding retention of Hastings Grants?

I'm sorry to hear about the terrible aid awards. FYI, even the best performers (top 5%) get tiny increases in aid (~2-3k). Trying to negotiate with better transfer options doesn't help.
If any of you want to talk to current and past Hastings students please feel free: http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 4&t=173522

Top person in each section gets $5k. Top 10 people overall get $5k. If you get need based aid though, the need is decreased by $10k if you get both.
I also happened to find out that its the top in each section/top ten *that return to the school in the fall*. Also they don't negotiate with terrorists (erm, transfers that is).

With those grades you could transfer to Stanford!lisavj wrote:Top person in each section gets $5k. Top 10 people overall get $5k. If you get need based aid though, the need is decreased by $10k if you get both.

Sooo the "award" is deduced from your aid package?lisavj wrote:Top person in each section gets $5k. Top 10 people overall get $5k. If you get need based aid though, the need is decreased by $10k if you get both.

I am pretty sure Hastings forgot me; still no decision here.
Although, from the sounds of the puny awards being given out, I should probably just move on...

I think UC Hastings lost my application. Complete since sometime in early February and I haven't heard even a bit of noise from them.

Withdrew yesterday. I was awarded a $14.5K Hastings Grant. Hopefully this will help some of you out in some way!

I think this is the case. I know a few people of my class ('12) who got in a week before classes started.redmessengerbag wrote:same here, your stats? i think it's taking so long because I'm borderlineelliejoon wrote:I think UC Hastings lost my application. I was accepted on May 24th, 2011. It was the night before college commencement. Perfect timing.
I've also heard of people being accepted right before school starts.
