Yea, my interest isn't exactly the best fit for Iowa. They have 1 professor who teaches my specific area of interest and he is a visiting professor. Iowa seems to be behind in cyber law and patent law so I wouldn't be super bummed about not getting in. Though I do have family in the area who I would've used as a resource.

One month and a day until they start taking a second look at us prelim. waitlisters. Just sayin'.

When I spoke with admissions, they told me thqt they would have some sort of decision by March 15 - admi, deny or regular (ranked) waitlist.

so since i don't have a snow balls chance in hell of being awarded a merit-based scholarship of any kind, has anyone heard if iowa is generous with need-based grants?

Scholarship recipients are allotted $300 for documented travel expenses including airfare, mileage on a personal vehicle (but not a rental), and hotel only. Receipts or credit card statements must be shown, and the amount is only awarded if you matriculate.

I was prelim waitlisted 12/17. I've given up (with a 3.67 and 151) and accepted a better paying job that expects a year commitment. I start March 7. If I find out a week after I start that I get in by some freak accident, I'll freak the eff ouuuuuuuuuuuut and probably go on a murder spree.

Is the year commitment really so solid that you can't get out of it to go to school? That seems odd to me... The only jobs I've been in that are a "one-year minimum commitment" are just ones that paid relocation, and if you quit before a year you just pay back the relocation assistance.

I got a nice semi-personal email today about my previous experience and my personal statement that definitely boosted Iowa way up in the schools I'm considering. Even if it was something everyone received it's a nice touch to let me know I'm not just receiving the exact same mass emails as everyone else.

The only additional bumps you get to your index is 1. URM or 2. In-state.

It looks like it'll be close for you to get a full merit. If you are URM or In-State I'd say you're a lock for one.
