It is definitely bugging me and I haven't even called them back. I certainly do not want that awkward phone call. I can imagine they will talk up GW until I'm like, yeah I withdrew from there to go to your school...
Yeah Witty, I want to work in STL after school. One of the other schools I deposited at basically told me that it would be really tough to get to STL from there. Today, WASHU was telling me how easy it would be to get to STL from that school. So yeah.....

Yea the are full of it. They even went ahead and talked about their concern for my debt-load and that a cheaper school wouldn't be a bad idea-- at least for my first year.

They actually tried to get you to go somewhere else? Craziness. If you take the guaranteed transfer option do you still get your scholarship for 2 and 3L years? I'm incredibly intrigued by this development.

Like I said earlier, it seems like they really want you but your numbers band is a little over-represented. They wouldn't offer this to full ride kids because they're being poached for a reason (median retention). Same thing for sticker kids— gotta get them dolla dolla bills. I'm not saying "don't be offended," because I'm sure tone did factor in, but I can still see their logic in the whole thing.

As usual RB you are on the money. They have their LSAT target median locked up so they are trying to focus on GPA and they are ok with losing splitters. I see the logic too, and I'm happy to have a healthy scholarship offer in hand. It's just that no matter times they said "we love your credentials and think you are a great guy" it felt like they were trying to gently nudge you out the door.

Oh, and yes, if you go somewhere else for 1L, your scholarship is still guaranteed to be waiting for you if you transfer to WASHU.

Interesting. That brings into play the whole debate of 'lower ranked = lower student quality'. If it's true that you can do better at a lower-ranked school (which I'm almost entirely sure is wrong), doing your doctrinal classes at an "easier" school could be a boost for OCI at Wash U. "I was top 5/10% at _______" sounds better than "I was top third at Wash U." Of course, that is all predicated on actually doing well at Other School of Law.

Weird thing about this is I'm a splitter and they just upped my scholly less than a few days ago and I didn't get the phone call.

My take on this would be maybe they are calling people who double deposited- therefore have other options that are in the band that they need to trim. You can't really ask someone to go somewhere else 1L year if they don't have other options unless they want you to defer which would be then have an effect on admissions for next year.

I don't know why they would tell people to go elsewhere knowing the application season is practically over and people withdrew elsewhere. only few schools are accepting applications and most of them are T-50s or T100s. I guess thats why they referenced the going to a lower ranked school...

Between 25th and 50th for both. So I get why they don't need my numbers. And I know they aren't forcing us to do anything. But going from we want you to we don't need you is a little annoying.

+1 I think they're rushing this a bit. Alot of people are going to withdraw due to waitlist or double depositing.

It's not totally unsubstantiated. Although it might make sense for them to trim on folks at medians so they can get all dat tuition from folks below medians, while still trying to retain people getting off T14 WL by handing out full rides (pretty sure this happened last year, there were a number of full rides awarded mid-June).

I told them that I'm not really interested in deferring and I felt like going somewhere else and transferring in would put me behind as far as social connections and such, but that I would think about it since it would save me money. She indicated the $ increase may be negotiable as well.

Also, isn't it really odd that they're doing this today after having admitted (at least) someone off the WL just yesterday? I mean, you'd think they'd have also known yesterday that they were over-committed...

Yeah I had the same thought. People were on here the last couple days saying they were accepted off the WL. Not sure what's going on.

The TL;DR version of the story is that watching Martin Brodeur play was what made me fall in love with hockey as a kid. I quickly became a Brodeur fan, and a Devils fan soon thereafter. Marty will likely retire this offseason or next, but I'm a Devils fan for life

You're Canadian. How did anything have to make you fall in love with hockey? I thought it was bred into you.

That's cool, though. I hate most of the Canadian teams (lookin' at you, Habs) anyway.
