So...factor that in too. My 65K from previous grad school went into a 20 year repayment plan...yucky. Each month, I pay approximately 50% interest and 50% principal, and that's on a consolidated sub/unsub federal loan. So...get ready for some of that kinda fun, kids!Presidentjlh wrote:That's factoring in the 84k scholarship.Unoriginalist wrote:Did you get all your scholarship info yet? $230,000...
Whelp, I guess no WUSTL for me now...
It's that damned interest on loans. Maybe I'm calculating wrong, but that's going to absolutely kill me. 42,000 in loans for the rest of tuition and CoL per year? 6.8% for half of it, 7.9% for the other? Ugh...
100K+ in interest? You sure? Or is this after taking ten years to pay it off, not right when you graduate?

Well if I can get that scholarship increased to above 100k, and find a way to lower my CoL, it becomes slightly more reasonable, but still.

Yes. Strongly considering. More than I've been offered from WUSTL at this point.wannabelawstudent wrote:Did anyone else get 18k a year from Indiana Tech?

I'm sure it's wrong, but it can't be that far off. Student loan interest is an abomination. I'm basically forced now to go to UNL, unless I retake that bleeping test that I would rather burn before look at again.historicrep wrote:That number can't be correct...

It's probably correct...especially if you already calculated for interest... It's partly why so many kids opt for T14 at sticker..Because getting tepid scholarships from lower schools don't really offset the loan burden. They figure they might as well go all out, which is true if you're looking at like...200k debt from T20 and like 250K debt from a T14Presidentjlh wrote:I'm sure it's wrong, but it can't be that far off. You should. No reason not to negotiate and get as many competitive offers as you can, regardless of their rankwannabelawstudent wrote:I really.....REALLY want to reply to this email and start negotiating with them.andy261 wrote:Yes. edit: wow! I apparently did not understand how interest works...

Using that calculator, I see I gravely overestimated the cost. I'd end up with a debt of 124000. (No way room/living expenses are gonna cost 20k a year)
That's still not great, but much, much more realistic to deal with.

That sounds more on target to me.
That's a LOT, but not undoable by any stretch of the imagination. But, then again, if you're hoping for small/midlaw, UNL is pretty good as far as those options go.

Honestly i think if you come out of a T20 school with a total debt (including UG debt) between 80-100k..that's pretty reasonable if you paid for everything in loans. Barring a full-ride it's not gonna get much lower if loans funded COL and tuition. 100k is a lot...but compared to the 250k it would cost at sticker, it's significantly cheaper.Unoriginalist wrote:Presidentjlh wrote:Using that calculator, I see I gravely overestimated the cost.
