Any chance we could add a column re: faculty review to this spreadsheet? I'd be curious about a) what applicants are pushed to faculty review; and, b) % of applicants accepted/waitlisted/dinged from faculty review.GoBucks6612 wrote:Berkeley Admissions Spreadsheets are Here!

Did not apply to Berkeley so unfamiliar with the process. Could you please PM me with what you would like to see?daaaaamnjulianna wrote:Any chance we could add a column re: faculty review to this spreadsheet? In about a week or so ago. Really excited, I just have a positive feeling about Berkeley. Anybody else from the East Coast with a similarly romanticized idea of California? Anybody from California to disabuse me of it?

I don't necessarily have romanticized ideas of Cali, but I think it's nice - and liberal. Lol.

Depends on what you like, but definitely visit. Berkeley isn't beaches and surfers, but it's got a stunning panoramic view of the bay and some of the best restaurants (particularly in terms of variety) of any college town I've been to. It's also got a park full of homeless people, is dirty as all hell, and is home to some of the worst imaginable drivers (and roads) that you could imagine. If you're a person who likes pristine, clean towns full of "normal" people [and this isn't a homeless sleight either; I was running in the nice part of Berkeley in the middle of March one time and ran past a man in a full bull costume (think mascot status) yelling "HAPPY NEW YEAR"] you will probably not be a fan of Berkeley.jb111 wrote:In about a week or so ago. It's not for everyone. I loved it (undergrad alumna), but several of my friends weren't as keen, and some outright despise it.

Yeah don't expect the Hollywood type CA you see on TV, but honestly that part of CA isn't for everyone. I moved to LA from New York and all the romantic notions disappeared pretty quickly.
Berkeley sounds more appealing actually since its a bit more pnw in flavor.
Defintely visit! Congrats!

Is the Berkeley Student/Staff body really that biased? I've spent a fair amount of time in SF and the bay area in general and never experienced an obnoxious/intolerant political atmosphere in my day to day happenings, but I've also never spent time on the campus.chargers21 wrote:I was just accepted to Berkeley yesterday and I feel like if I attended I would stick out like a sore thumb being relatively moderate. I visited my friend in June who was a 1L last year who has since transferred. She said that ultimately most people in the law school are there to make money lol. Upon visiting you lost the unrealistic notions of it but I still loved it otherwise. You're introduced immediately to the homeless situation but I loved the sun, views, vibe and feel. And the food. All of their grad programs are great I don't think every student is super liberal, i feel that is more the undergrad and town resident feel. I am excited to visit again for ASW

Haha, yeah I'm pretty sure I'm not even allowed to have one of my firearms in California.chargers21 wrote:I'm just going off of heresay, as I've never even been to California. Speaking with a good friend of mine who is now a 2L at NYU (but also spent time in Berkeley as he was weighing his options, both of which are very liberal schools), he came away with the impression that there was an obvious liberal bent to the people there but they weren't obnoxious or "in your face" about politics, and the subject comes up less often than you'd think. When politics does come up, though, most people know how to communicate their views in a respectful way (even if they are firm about their views). Considering that Boalt is among the top professional schools in the country (and I do want to emphasize the professional part), I wouldn't worry about people shaming or shutting you down just because you're not a liberal. Let's not forget, they have a thriving Federalist Society chapter there as well.chargers21 wrote:I was just accepted to Berkeley yesterday and I feel like if I attended I would stick out like a sore thumb being relatively moderate. Any T14 is going to be pretty liberal.

Eh, not quite.Rigo wrote:Any T14 is going to be pretty liberal.
Plus, even comparatively, I think Berkeley is on the more liberal side of the T14.

I'm standing by my original statement though in regards to the average political makeup of the student body at each T14.

I think there's actually a lot of talk about UVA and Chicago being more conservative. UVA wouldn't surprise me. Chicago kind of threw me off though.Rigo wrote:I'm not disagreeing about Berkeley.brinicolec wrote:Eh, not quite.Rigo wrote:Any T14 is going to be pretty liberal.

More conservative relative to the rest of the T14 or in that conservatives outnumber non-conservatives?brinicolec wrote: I think there's actually a lot of talk about UVA and Chicago being more conservative. UVA wouldn't surprise me. Chicago kind of threw me off though.
