Decision made, waiting for email. >>75th LSAT, <<25th GPA. Straight to law school from undergrad.

PT or RD?

priority track. complete 11/7, under review 11/8 and 11/14, I refreshed the status checker maybe 10 times today because Duke is one of my top 3. It changed between 3:15 and 3:30pm EST.
Overall just making sure I'd be in at one of my top choices and getting in this early would take a ton of stress off for the next two months of waiting. I got into WUSTL already so I know nothing is seriously wrong with my application or LoRs

Mine fell on Monday, and I heard back the Sunday before it.

ooo I'm getting excited (even though I'm sure most people fall on day 10). I feel like falling on a weekend might make it more likely to hear back on Friday (at least I'm hoping).

sent to priority reserve, whatever that is.
from my visits and friends at each, I wanted to get into duke or UVA badly, now I'm very disappointed tbh.
kinda scared now for my probability at UVA & the rest of my cycle more broadly

should i submit a LOCI immediately? I don't anticipate winning anything worth mentioning in the near future, -'d my next transcript - even a 3.8+ this semester - will minimally impact my gpa because I'm only taking 12 credits.

Thanks! Went complete 10/20. Got an email and status checker changed to Decision Made; watch for email.

The email said I was "provisionally accepted" and would be officially accepted after applying for scholarships in December or immediately if I chose to not apply... is this the typical process at Duke?

People have heard back on Sunday and holiday evenings. Don't count on a weekend/holiday bumping you up.

Do you think we should not place much stock in the below, then? 10 days for me is the Sat following Thanksgiving. I have just been telling myself two weeks instead of 10 days so as to not get too anxious about it.

That is not one of the conclusions that I was implying. However, for whatever value it is worth (and you can double check last cycle's thread), I think I remember that note being mentioned and people still received decisions over the holiday last year.

With that said, the bolded is a good strategy. It's not worth stressing about when you're going to get a decision, especially when they send out decisions erratically. Other schools you can count on waves at predictable times (mid-afternoon, before business close, etc). Duke is unpredictable so it's not worth the stress, even on the 10th day. I wish someone would have told me that last year.

so what's the logic of the admissions committee when it comes to scholarship interviews? is it:

a) this person really wants to go to Duke, lets throw some money their way!

or b) this person really wants to go to Duke, no need to persuade them with any money!

Everyone always says those why x essays take like 30 min but for me it takes like four days!

FWIW I was at both medians didn't write a why duke and got in through PT, I think they do look at other qualities that they want to promote at their school...who knows.

I got that entrepreneur pamphlet too don't think it's customized but it's a great strategy they're doing getting people interested

I guess I take back my Why X argument. I honestly felt that if you had a Why X essay done, you could just adjust it quickly but maybe not...?

Also don't think the pamphlet thing is working now that I know they sent it to everyone - I appreciate a personal touch, not mass spamming.

I was impressed by their clerkship numbers and learning about the venture start up clinic was cool. I guess I don't expect anything personal lol Their interchangeable one liner in the acceptance letter was good for me lol

Idk for me writing the why x essays were hard but I did it for my top three schools so I cared an awful lot, and Penns was pretty different than the other two. I'm about to write for two that I'm not as excited about which will probably be a lot shorter

Took me awhile to write a Why X I liked. Nothing felt sincere. Finally figured out an angle that worked and was applicable to a lot of my top schools because they all have good placement numbers for it lol. Some had better detailing than others but that's because I like some schools better than others.

I didn't write a Why Duke. Would've if I'd seen all these posts before applying though. Anyone know if it's a good idea to email them and attach one or should I just let it go? Lol
